Olympics may come with a cost: more violence

I could barely finish the video of Derrion Albert's death. I was horrified.

And it happens all the time, we're told. A similar fight happened this morning in Edgewater, a 14 year-old boy beaten in the head with a pipe.

Child after child has been killed on Chicago's streets this year.

We're all outraged, but at the same time, we're distracted. Our president, our first lady, our mayor and all our local celebrities are gathered in Copenhagen, practically begging the International Olympic Committee to let us host the Olympic games in 2016.

But if we get it, could it mean this insane violence will only increase?

Most of the anti-Olympics pieces I've seen so far have focused on corruption and waste at the top end of the political/economic spectrum. This is the first post I've seen that discusses the possible impact on the people at the bottom of the ladder. Well done!
