Last week, I wrote about Lathrop Homes and the Chicago Housing Authority's plans to build a mixed-income community there. 

Residents, current and former, are fighting back, saying their diverse, unique community deserves to be rehabbed, not razed.

Lathrop, which surrounds the intersection of Clyborn and Diversey, is a fixture that many of us Northsiders are familiar with. I thought I'd include a few pictures so you could see what your neighborhood looked like back in the 30s when Lathrop was being built. The city looked very different back then.




All this brand-new, beautiful housing was meant to be lived in, and many families lived in Lathrop over the years. Here are some of the families and children that called Lathrop home in the 40s, 50s and 60s:


And best of all is a home movie that Perry Parsino shared with me of he and his brother, Vince playing in the snow:
