I never mean the news round ups to be about banning things, but it's a theme lately. Housing authorities just like to ban stuff, it seems.
Maybe you enjoy the fresh smell of your sheets hung out to dry in the summer sun? Not if you live in Connecticut's public housing. They've instituted a new ban on clotheslines. They're afraid someone is going to literally get clotheslined.
1 man, 2 'affordable homes' - the Suntimes continues their excellent series about how 'affordable' homes are being sold to people with plenty of money, including this guy, who bought two city condos and doesn't live in either.
Public Housing Tenants still facing evictions over unusually high water bills - Residents in Baltimore are getting crazy sky-high bills for water - $1000+ - and then facing eviction for not keeping up with their utilities.
Luxury Home Prices Falling - Just in case you're in the market for a mansion, the Trib reports you can get one on the cheap. That is, if you consider $3 million to be a steal.
And finally, if you want to start your Monday with a little crazy, look no further. A riveting article about raising the minimum wage.
I can't decide if my favorite part is the part about God's poverty line ("If you can afford no more than a Bible for each member of your family,
then you are above the only poverty line that matters: God's poverty
line.") or about starvation being a better plan than paying people more ("The minimum wage debate is really quite simple: if you force people to work at lower wages, they will work harder: after all, hunger is a positive motivator.")
Reading that blog was a positive motivator for me to work harder. Another post coming your way this afternoon.
