- Friday, the School of the Art Institute hosts its annual Holiday Art Sale: in addition to having a wide and varied selection of all types of art, the artists receive a large portion of their sales.
- The DIY Trunk Show runs from 10am-5pm Saturday at Pulaski Park Auditorium (1419 W. Blackhawk). Head here for a list of vendors, and further information.
- But wait, there's more! Backpedal to Friday and head to Mars Gallery (1139 W. Fulton Market) for an opening centered on Thought You Knew's calendar, featuring pretty people on pretty awesome bikes. Yeah!
The Fourth Annual
Chicago Calling Arts Festival (CCAF4) features Chicago-based artists collaborating with artists living in other locations. The following events are part of this festival.
- Friday, Brown Rice (4432 N. Kedzie.) features two sets of sound, music, and film. A performance by Chicago Phonography is followed by more performances by Chicago-based musicians and films by non-local filmmakers.$5 suggested donation.
- Myopic Books hosts poetry readings and a "telephone art" game Sunday. Poets TBA. 7-9pm. Free!

News broke this morning that the
Chi-Town Daily News had laid off the entire staff on Wednesday night, and that founder and editor-in-chief Geoff Dougherty was working to create a new for-profit public affairs publication in its place.
