Even the poets who share their work with the Old Town neighborhood is a tight knit community. Fellow poet, Jane Sawyers, has been a friend of Judy Valente for 12 years. Although Sawyers is not a parishoner at Immaculate Conception, she has been asked to do a poetry reading as well next month.

Jane Sawyers lives in the south loop and is a freelance travel writer for the Chicago Tribune. In her spare time she writes poetry, and has many celtic poems. Sawyers came to Valente and DeGenova's poetry reading after being a fan of theirs for many years.

"Judy's poetry is wonderful," said Sawyers. "It is profound, deep, touching, moving, and beautiful."

Sawyers said that Valente has established quite a strong following in the community and is a well known poet. She attributes the large gathering at the reading to Valente's popularity within the church community.

"I have many of her books in my collection," said Sawyers, "but to hear her poetry live makes it all the more special."

Each poet recited 8 poems, and Sawyers is expected to share some of her work at the next reading; including some celtic pieces.
