Old Town: Home of the Perfect Valentine's Day Gift

A young woman bent on world (and news) domination, I am currently an undergrad student at DePaul University majoring in journalism.

Ah, Valentine's Day. That pesky little holiday where hearts are aflutter, Cupid's arrows are airborne, and significant others everywhere frantically search for the ideal gift to prove their ever-flowing love to one another.

However, that search for the perfect Valentine's Day gift could be much easier this year, if you just head over to the main drag of N. Wells Street in Old Town. Amidst the glowing red bulbs and decorations that fill many of the storefronts, many of the local businesses are filled with perfect gift ideas to give your sweetie.

Still not sure that one neighborhood could possibly fulfill all of your Valentine's Day needs? Then check out my "Top 5 Valentine's Day Gift Ideas From Old Town":
1. The Fudge Pot (1532 N. Wells)

A mixed assortment of The Fudge Pot's delicious truffles or a box of their huge chocolate-covered strawberries would make the perfect gift to share on Valentine's Day. However, if neither of these options sound appealing to you, not to fret! You can also make a personalized lollipop or choose from one of their 1,000 chocolate-molded items, which include everything from a basic heart to a sports car made of fudge. Perfect for someone with a sweet tooth or for someone who just appreciates art made out of chocolate (and let's be honest, who doesn't appreciate art made out of chocolate?!?!).

2. A New Leaf (2 Locations in Old Town- 1645 N. Wells and 1818 N. Wells)

Whether your significant other likes lilies, orchids, roses, or something completely different, the florists at A New Leaf can help you to create a magnificent, one-of-a-kind floral arrangement or bouquet that your sweetheart is sure to love. With flowers of nearly ever color, size, and scent, the friendly and helpful staff members will help you search through a multitude of options to create just the right piece for your significant other. I, personally, have used A New Leaf multiple times for floral arrangements and I can honestly say I have always been very impressed.

3. The Second City (1616 N. Wells)

Everybody loves a good laugh and where better to laugh then at Chicago's top comedy club, the Second City. They currently are offering three different shows, which means you have three different choices for tickets: Taming of the Flu, Stud's Terkel's Not Working, and Rush Limbaugh: The Musical. Although a night at the comedy club may not sound romantic, it's the perfect option for a more relaxed and, most likely, more entertaining night out.

4. Galleria Liquers (1559 N. Wells)

What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day then with a delicious bottle of wine? And at Galleria Liquers you will definitely have your choice of wine as you browse through their selection of 700 wines from all over the world. Galleria Liquers also offers a great selection of "value wines" for under $15, all of which represent the "best of the best" from tastings- meaning you can pick up a delicious bottle without having to empty your wallet.

5. Bistrot Margot (1437 N. Wells)

While your shopping in Old Town, don't forget to make dinner reservations at Bistrot Margot- a traditional Parisian bistrot right in the heart of the neighborhood. With a special Valentine's Day menu that includes everything from snails simmered in garlic butter to duck breast with pecans and bigarade sauce, this is the perfect gift for someone who wants to experience "a touch of Paris in Old Town". Best of all, the dessert menu offers the perfect end to a romantic evening, with chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce and an equisite creme brulee being some of my personal favorite contenders.

And if none of these options tickled your fancy, I can guarantee you that there are plenty more! One walk down N. Wells and I can guarantee you will find the perfect Valentine's Day gift.
