History buff? Sports nut? Pop culture obsessed? Team Trivia caters to all

If it's not already obvious, Chicagoans love trivia. Bill Adee's visit to our class only reinforced that when he showed us Chicago Hearts Trivia, which lists where you can play trivia (almost) every night of the week. (You know, in case you have yet to be exposed.)

Last night, I ventured to Burton's Place on Wells to play my first ever Team Trivia. Before I ventured into the bar, I had read that unless you went super late into the evening (or morning, take your pick), Burton's is often full of regulars. And that's exactly who was there last night.

Although I had never played trivia before, I had witnessed it at Paddy Longs where it was crowded, loud and intense. So when we first arrived to maybe a total of 10 people in the bar, I was a little worried that trivia wasn't really happening.

But it was.
And by the time it was time to begin, a total of seven teams were at Burton's, ready to play. Every team coins their own team name--names that ranged from Ali, to FPI Bitches, to the Landsharks.

The game itself was hosted by yet another regular to Burton's, Rebecca. (It was her first night back after a three month hiatus.)

Each game is made up of six rounds with three questions to each round and a final question to end the game. Each of these trivia questions come with different categories--basketball, movies, music, collectibles, world history, etc.

Team Trivia begins at 8:30 p.m. every Monday night at Burton's and goes a little bit like this:
  • Anyone can play. And I mean anyone
  • It's FREE. And with prizes. ($10, $20, and $30 off your tab for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places)
  • You submit your answer (with your team name and point wager) on one of the answer cards.
  • You are given three separate point amounts to wager for each round (first three: 1-3-5, last three 2-4-6), and for the final round, you can wager up to 15 points.
  • You're given a score sheet to keep track of your progress on your own--if you want to.
