Herb Kent presented with the 2010 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, where he holds the record for longest running DJ

Legendary DJ Herb Kent was honored with a roast & toast hosted by The Real Men Cook Charities at the South Shore Cultural Center.  Chicago radio personalities, politicians, corporate executives and fans showed up to pay tribute and celebrate  Herb Kent"The Cool Gent."

The evening was also special as Herb Kent was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for longest running on air Disc Jockey. ( 65 years)

The evening started with a special reception to present Kent with the special edition of the Guiness Book of World records.  Guests were then escorted into the ballroom for an entertaining but very history filled night of roasting and toasting.

There were many radio legends and personalities in the room who credit Kent for inspiring them in their careers, including Richard Steele, Bonnie DeShong, Ramonksi Luv & Joe Soto, Darryll King, Deborah Crable, Cliff Kelly, Marv Dyson and many more!

Friends roasted Herb about his age (he is 80 years old), his many celebrity stories and his funny habits.  Fox 32's Robin Robinson acted as MC for the evening's event.  Governor Pat Quinn presented Kent with a proclamation of December 5th being "Herb Kent Day."

I learned so much history about Chicago radio - I hope they turn Herb Kent's book "The Cool Gent" of his life into a film because it is filled with great history of the radio industry.

I read his book several months ago and loved every minute of it, especially when he compared today's radio personalities to those in his crew.

I started taking interest in it earlier this year when I was at ICE theaters on 87th street, and there was a movie presented by WVON on black radio. That's when I devoured Herb Kent's book.

Hey, I see you figured out how to add the pics as a slideshow. You have to delete the other ones though because people won't click on the slideshow if they can just scroll down and see the same ones. I look forward to seeing your other events too. Welcome to ChicagoNow.com. I'm glad N'Digo joined.

I missed the Roast...wish I coulda been there...

I even had a couple of 'roasts'...

Herb's been around sooooo long...he remembers being 3/5's of a man...

Herb's been in the radio business soooo long...Jack Gibson had a poster of Herb on his wall of heroes...and Gibson is deceased!
