Cutler shoulda been careful what he wished for

The Bald Truth

Congratulations, Jay Cutler: You wanted out of Denver, you got out of Denver.

It must be such a relief that you no longer have to deal with aggravations such as linemen who block, receivers who get open, tailbacks who go forward, defensive teammates who get you the ball back and offensive coaches who have a clue.

All that stuff is so boring, anyway. Playing quarterback for the Bears means an adventure every week!

Oh, and belated congrats on the contract extension that will keep you flourishing in Bear Country through 2013 ... if that line of yours lets you stay alive that long.
The List

Top five comments by Fox's Troy Aikman, the best analyst in the business:

5. "How much time does Kurt Warner need? I mean, he stands back there, he pumps it about three times and then he (passes) underneath. I watched Chicago defensively a couple of weeks ago and I thought, 'Boy, they really look slow.' This is just downright embarrassing what we're seeing here today."

4. "The Bears are just getting manhandled."

3. "It's like a 7-on-7 drill in practice ... because there is no pass rush."

2. "Jay Cutler, when they traded for him, he really put a spotlight on some of the deficiencies in the other areas of this team: wide receiver, offensive line, some of the things that have not been addressed here in recent years. If you're gonna go out and get Cutler, they really need to surround him with good players. Otherwise, it's pointless to have brought him in."

1. "I thought high school football was played on Friday. Wow."

Just Asking

When do the Bears get to play the Browns again?

The Quote

"Lovie Smith gathered up the defense after (Arizona's) last score. He stressed communication. Lovie did a similar thing for the defense after they struggled against Cincinnati. He described this series as perhaps the most critical of the day." - Fox sideline reporter Pam Oliver, after the Cardinals' offense took the field with a 14-7 second-quarter lead.

Six plays, 70 yards and 7 more points later, the rout was on.

Not to sound like a know-it-all, but Lovie might have wanted to try some slightly different motivational tactics than the ones that didn't quite play to boffo reviews in Cinci.

Jeesh. Just imagine how bad the D would be had Lovie not assumed command and brought in Rod Marinelli as his chief lieutenant.

The Balder Truth

Which was worse?

... That Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and his joke of a backup QB, Matt Leinert, tried to give away the game but the Bears refused to take it? (Note to Whisenhunt: If you're winning big, you shouldn't start making major substitutions until your opponent waves the white flag and takes out its best players.)

... Or that the Bears let the NFL's No. 32 (out of 32) rushing team run for 182 yards, mostly through holes even larger than the one Tommie Harris has in his head?

... Or that Harris apparently is even more stupid than he is selfish? (Punching an opposing player and getting kicked out on the game's fourth play: selfish; punching an opponent in the facemask: stupid.)

... Or that, one week after Warner was harassed into five interceptions by the pathetic Panthers, he was given all the time he needed to throw five TD passes against the benevolent Bears?

...
Or that the Cardinals didn't even need Anquan Boldin to put up 41 points? (The injured All-Pro receiver looked pissed every time they showed him on the sideline. You'd have been pissed, too, if you missed your chance to go against that secondary.)

... Or that watching Larry Fitzgerald catch passes against the Bears' defensive backfield was like watching Michael Jordan dunk against a JV squad?

... Or that the Bears' offense took its sweet time whenever it got the football in the fourth quarter? (The good news: Lovie used his time-outs to stop the clock in the final minute with the Bears down three scores.)

... Or that Jerry Angelo actually thought a strong-armed quarterback was all the Bears needed to be a championship team?

THE BALDEST TRUTH

At least the Cincinnati massacre took place on the road. Bears fans had to fork over big bucks to witness this drubbing.

If the McCaskeys had even a shred of decency, they'd give every ticketholder a 50 percent refund.

Though I suspect most fans would settle quite happily for a few playmakers and a new coaching staff.

Well, it is a short slide to bad. What ever happend to Lovie's "everybody is back on defense" the last couple of years? See what that got ya!

To all those fools out there thinking they can get coaching changes if they cry loud enough. Forget about Lovie and Angelo being fired. The only way that happens is if people stop going to the games and stop buying Bears stuff. Like that will happen anytime soon. Money talks all else walks. If you don't like the product don't buy it.
