Unless you've been living under a rock (or do not follow Univision or David Archuleta on Twitter) you will probably heard Univision last night unveiled Somos el Mundo, Latino's own remake of the We Are the World remake.
The song features some venerable Latinos (Chente, El Puma, Ednita Nazario, José Feliciano, etc.) and a few members of the U.S.-born, recently inducted, retro-acculturated crowd (i.e. David Archuleta.) It even features a non-Hispanic artist, who wishes to be one: Arthur Hanlon.
I have to say it's not as bad as I thought. But still, my favorite is We Are the World 3: Raising Awareness of the We Are the World 2 Disaster, which might not be as well-intentioned as previous efforts, but is surely funny as hell:

I wouldn't really call David Archuleta retro-acculturated. His first language was Spanish and he grew up singing in both English and Spanish. On Youtube, besides David's ALMA awards performance of Contigo en la Distancia, there's also a lovely recording of him singing Contigo at age 12. I really like Somos el Mundo. I bought the video and song on iTunes for Haiti. And thanks for the SNL video - I missed that night!
I really liked both versions. My first language is Spanish, but I admire a lot of the singers in the English version. Great jobs to both songs. In the end they are both remakes united for a good cause. My favorite and no doubt was the Spanish one. I'm not just saying it because I'm Latina, even people that are not latino/a agree!.. :)

For the record, David Archuleta is not "retro-acculturated." Latin culture -- including music, dance, and cuisine -- has been an important part of his childhood and upbringing. David's Honduran roots run very deep indeed, and include visits with family members living in Honduras, charity functions, etc.
David was extremely excited and grateful to be a part of the Spanish language version of "We Are The World," and his soulful, silky voice was a great addition. I love the passion all the artists brought, and they are to be commended for participating in such a worthy cause.
