The Hangover Month

Bartender, Manager, Drinker, Musician and Drinker, Myong Has been in the hospitality industry for more years then he can remember.

The holidays eat up time like tornados eat up trailer parks. Now comes the time of year where we might actually have time on our hands: January, the hangover month.

The last two months of the year always take it all out of everybody, financially and emotionally. It's no surprise that so many people who never go out come out of the woodwork to party beyond the loosest of reason. If you go out on a regular basis, do you noticed all the alien faces at your spot on New Year's Eve? The seeming pressure of time running out makes us all a little crazy. And hey, if you didn't need a drink after 2009, you weren't paying attention and still live in your mom's basement.

For me, a new day starts when I can shake off the previous one, and this New Year's it was at a friend's house after closing up at South Loop club The Shrine early New Year's Day. Amidst talk about how the night went and New Year's resolutions, I realized how good most of us have it. While pouring a round of drinks and looking around at all the smiling faces, you see that the hectic life around the holidays is all worth it, and it gives you reason to look forward to the new year, and a whole month to enjoying a nice, long hangover.

Cheers!
