Meet bartender and mixologist Tony Potempa
Like many other bartenders, I began working in bars when I was in college. When I graduated with a B.A. in acting, it seemed natural to continue working in bars in between film and commercial auditions. The dual career has been like a match made in heaven. Bartending is a flexible job and you basically get to throw a party for people every time you work. But, be warned, bartending is NOT for everybody. You must be a people person to do this job!
Working full-time at Roof at the Wit hotel (plus other spots such as D4 and clubs like Spybar as a one night each) keeps me in the know about all things involving Chicago nightlife. So you can count on me to blog about celebrity sightings, trends in mixology, fun bar stories and interviews with other local bartenders.
Last year was fun and crazy. I was lucky enough to make the top four in Metromix's Best Bartender 2009. Lots of people got a chance to try my Havana Bluberry Mojito (pictured), which won the title of best drink in the contest. But here, we'll even able to share more recipe do's and don'ts for when making cocktails YOURSELF at home.
I encourage you to comment and share your stories about your experiences here in Chicago bars and clubs to help this be fun for all of us. Tell your friends and enjoy this new blog!
