Chicago goes green this Christmas with smaller, single tree

Do you use energy-safe Christmas decorations?

For the first time since 1955, the city of Chicago will be using one single Christmas tree instead of 113 small trees stacked up to 90 feet high, according to WGN News. The small tree was donated by the Weivoda Family in Palos Heights, and I support Chicago's decision to be more economical with our city tax dollars.

Chicago's 2009 Christmas tannenbaum tree is going to be decoratedd with 7,000 energy-saving lights to show its support of going green. This is not only a good idea to encourage other Chicago Christmas consumers to use energy-safe ornaments, but it's also an effective way to save much needed money.

According to the Sun Times, the tree is under 60 feet and can fit under Chicago's el train.

The Christmas lighting ceremony will be on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 4:30 p.m.

But what blew my mind was that WGN TV News reported that Chicago spends $350,000 on Chicago's Christmas decorating. That's a reasonable amount for about 12 people's salaries! With unemployment the way it is, I'm supporting Chicago on saving money, lights and trees by using this one tree.

I don't even believe I'll miss anything considering stores will be full of Christmas trees and neighborhoods will probably still be lighting up with outside and inside decorations too.  I went to a Rogers Park Family Dollar last month and saw Christmas decorations in place of Halloween decorations. This city is starting early! Hopefully holiday consumers will take the hint from Chicago's Office of Special Events and use energy-saving decorations too.

Montie they showed the actual tree on the news Friday and I couldn't stop laughing, (I know bad Cynthia :>) the tree look like it's suffering from anorexia compared to trees of old. Anyway, whatever the City of Chicago can do to save money I say do it. I believe the tree will do just fine:)!!

Cynthia, girl, I saw that tree last week. Oooh wee! WGN News called it the Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and it is. It's about as sickly looking as it wants to be, but I'm a hardcore Peanuts fan so I love it. All the Charlie Brown tree needed was a little "love" and some decorations to hide the bald spots. They should put a sign under it that says "Go green. Recession Tree." I'm just playing. I love CB so I love that tree.
