The Executive HQ, the Chicago artsy place to party
This is what the ceiling looks like in The Executive HQ.
Every once in awhile you go to a party or visit a place that leaves a lasting impression, and this past Friday on Oct. 9, I did just that. My cousin had a Mardis Gras birthday party on the south side of Chicago at "The Executive HQ," located at 2310 E. 75th Street. As soon as I stepped into this club, I could tell that the architect or artist who created it put a lot of weird effort into it.
Before you walk into The Executive HQ, it doesn't look like it's open to the public. The windows are painted white, and eyes stare back at you. And as soon as you walk in, looking up at the ceiling, there are multiple shut doors just hanging upside down. And in front of the door is a chair shaped like a hand, so when you sit down, it looks like the hand is groping your butt. Of course I sat down immediately, laughing away.
In the area where photos were being taken, you look further down into what looks like a room that hasn't finished being renovated. There are rocks all over the floor like a dead-end street, but right in the middle of the room are a couple of chairs and a coffee table. With the furniture there, you can't quite tell whether somebody made the best of a bad situation or whether it's meant to look like that.
One of the bathrooms is narrow and has a tub in the middle of it for whatever reason. And even the sink faucet doesn't just turn on. You have to pump the handle. In the back area where the deejay booth was set up, there's this wooden shelf full of little vases, and a couple boxes where shelves should be are boarded up for whatever inexplicable reason.
I don't think I saw all the strange things going on there because I was too busy trying to hang out at the Mardis Gras party, but I enjoyed the creativity of The Executive HQ. If you're looking for an artsy and big place to party, I'd recommend checking this location out.
