Way back in the day (which would be April) at my First 5k, my dad drove Alicia and I to the race, where we saw people running along the way TO the race. I remember us commenting on how crazy that was, and that the 5k was probably just a cool-down to them.
Yesterday, I became that crazy runner.
I had 12 miles scheduled for this weekend but had Fleet Feet's Women's 10k race scheduled. So I got up as early as I possibly could (6am), ran out the door, and headed to the race:
6am: Ran 4.5 miles
7:10am: Gear check, walked to the Port-a-Potty
7:11am: Realized Port-a-Potties were gross and that I didn't have to go that bad.
7:30am: 10k! Girls only, no boys allowed!
8:45am: Finish line! But had 1.5 to go!
9am: Got my race banana!!
Putting a race in between your long run is pretty sweet. It breaks up the routine and gets you pumped up to keep going. The only draw-back to the schedule was that by the time I was done with my extra distance, most of the free goodies were gone. So someone needs to buy me a Muscle Milk, because hell, I earned it!
Fleet Feet put on an excellent race. The weather was cloudy and cool, which was perfect. Running with thousands of women was pretty sweet- I didn't have to dodge any spit.
Stats: 12 miles: 2h 15 min. Only stopped because I had to start the race! This week was way better than last week. Funny how when you stick to your schedule and don't eat crap all week how much it can benefit your long runs. =D
