When I first heard about Diana Durkes and her blog Fine Diving in Chicago, I knew I had to meet her. First of all, what a great concept and title for a blog, right? Secondly, found furniture was on my mind. Our goal was to furnish the house on the island with free or as-close-to-free-as-possible furniture and I needed to learn how to make it look good.
Fine Diving in Chicago to the rescue!
Though I am pretty good at finding good deals on furniture at flea
markets and thrift stores, I'm a complete and total novice when it
comes to refurbishing anything. Diana has skills I can only dream of
mastering.
After perusing her blog, I reached out to say, essentially, that I wanted to know how I could be like her. Luckily, she is as cool, saavy and down-to-earth as I expected.
My mom and I joined Diana for a day of garage sale-ing in September and had so much fun. I was hoping that some of her genius would rub off on me by simply being in her presence. I also warned her that I would be asking for her help on the island. And in only one week of being here, I've already e-mailed her at least five times asking for her expertise! Sorry, Diana! I hope our cyber-collaboration will be mutually beneficial.
Island Diving - check out our finds!
So, here's the deal... Diana has written a lovely post today about Bob and my hunt for furniture on the island. She titled it appropriately ISLAND DIVING and posted pictures of the furniture we've found so far along with the backstory.
She's asking readers for suggestions on our behalf. So to see pictures of what we've found in the thrift stores on the island so far, you'll have to check out Diana's post. I have to say, I'm pretty psyched about our finds and the prices.
What do you think of our new furniture?
What would you do to spruce it up?
Go to her blog and leave suggestions in the comments. Please. I need all the help I can get.
Thanks!
