Here's what I spent yesterday:
$4.02 - 6-inch turkey sub from Subway
$2.99 - salad from Whole Foods
$.99 bottle of water (forgot my water bottle. Bad, Stephanie) - Whole Foods
$1.11 - nectarine (crazy expensive nectarine that was only just o.k.) - Whole Foods
$2.10 - small cafe au lait - Whole Foods
Whole foods total including tax $5.53
Day 1 Total: $9.55
That means I have $29.32 remaining. Which averages $4.89 per day.
(I haven't spent anything today but we're going to the White Sox game tonight. I plan on enjoying a beverage. Which will probably set me back about $6. So... perhaps I won't.)
Here's what I learned yesterday:
-Big Boy is heavy when filled with coins
-Eating lunch at home saves money
-Planning is key
-It's impossible to spend less than $5.00 at Whole Pay Check
-People look at you funny when you pay a $5.53 bill in coins

I think you're right that eating lunch at/from home is key. I work from home, so I don't have to go out much. I haven't been to the grocery store recently, so I don't have any quick & easy microwavable meals this week. Instead, I decided to clean out the fridge & food pantry today. I found plenty of rice, pasta, soups, etc, so I'll be motivated to cook more.
I'm just about to get the small coins out of my car (I'm saving the quarters for parking), then I'll have over $30. I'm not brave enough to carry the coins around, so I'm going to my bank to cash them in (they have a machine & don't charge a fee for customers). I may have about $7 a day. Unfortunately, I need shampoo & conditioner. Maybe I can find a couple of travel-size bottles from my last vacation & put off buying those potentially high dollar items.
This is fun, so far.
