Today's Taste of TLT is a little different. Instead of just posting links to the events, we're going to start including the entire script! That way you can choose to listen OR read - whichever's easiest for you. So without further ado...
Each weekday Taste of TLT tells you where to go in Chicago.

In today's Taste of TLT we invite you to go ice skating, find out what a "Doodleganza" is, and laugh the night away.
This week's song is by
Molehill. Their influences include Cake, The Decemberists, and Spoon. Take a listen and see what you think.
Recently opened in the also-new Palomar Hotel,
Sable Kitchen & Bar has been inviting media to come in and sample their wares. And oh, what wares they are. The cocktails are carefully crafted; the cuisine is comfortably creative; the service is simply exceptional. I visited Friday and was blown away.

If you've ever been to see The Shams Band, then you know this song:
Adriana Ramirez is kicking butt and taking names - her song, Conflict View, is the third one to be voted to the home page of The Local Tourist!
This week's Featured Band is Beneath The Stares!
This week The Local Tourist's visitors chose Scott Peckenpaugh's "Miss Your Sin" to be on the home page and featured here:
This week's featured band is The Shams Band! Their music is a rollickin' good time. Just listen to Shelly if you don't believe me.
I'm only a quarter Irish, but like any good Chicagoan when March rolls around I am all about St. Patrick's Day. This year I'm breaking out the brogue in a really big way.
This week's featured artist is Adriana Ramirez. Her song, "Let's Make It Work", is actually the second of hers that received the most votes in one week.
Chicago's music scene is, to put it simply, phenomenal. There's so much depth and breadth and talent it's almost overwhelming. I've been a long-time supporter of local bands and musicians and recently increased that support by providing a broader presence on
thelocaltourist.com. Artists are invited to post their songs, and then fans vote for their favorite. The song with the most votes for the week is featured on the home page the following week!
Well, this has been a sad state of affairs. I've posted once so far in 2010. Sad sad sad. It's unconscionable, really. But, I promise to make it up to you, starting today.
Barenaked Ladies fans are lucky lucky lucky. WTMX's
Cara Carriveau is hosting a free concert tonight from 6 to 8m at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park. Yes, that is a bit of a hike, but it's Barenaked Ladies! And it's free! If you don't have a car, you can take the Orange line from downtown to Kedzie, and then grab the 52A to 115th and Spaulding.
When: Today! 6 to 8pm
How much: Free
Where: 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 W 115th St, Merrionette Park
It's tradition to start the new year with a toast of champagne. Keep the celebration going with not just one but a whole flight of the sparkling beverage.
Man, it is bitter outside! No need to be bitter inside, though, because there are a couple of events tonight put on by a couple of my favorite Chicagoans!
I love live music. I adore local musicians. Elbo Room is one of my happy places. Ergo, it just makes sense that I would host a local live music showcase at that bastion of bands.
Tonight is the first ever TLT Showcase. Five of my favorite local bands, all of whom have been featured on TLT, will take the stage. You'll forget all about the cold and snow as you hear amazing music from David Kav, Matt Ryd, Left Turn At Albuquerque, Goodbye Home, and Cobalt and the Hired Guns.
The first snow truly heralds the beginning of winter. I invited Chicagoans to post their photos to
The Local Tourist Flickr pool and here are a few that were added. Feel free to add your own to the pool and maybe they'll be included here, too!

We awakened to a brisk December dawn and headed to Overton Park for the St. Jude Marathon. After an inspiring and moving morning encouraging the runners we headed to the iconic Sun Studios. We followed that with a trip to Beale Street. Here are my favorite pictures from the day. To see all of them, visit my
Flickr page.

After finally leaving Carbondale around 3 in the morning, we arrived in Memphis around 7:30 or 8am. Despite getting about an hour of sleep on the train, we headed immediately to Otherlands, a cute coffee shop, with our gracious host Rich Varnon. Then we picked up a rental car and headed to Graceland, the home of The King. Next up was the Cook Convention Center for a gig at the St. Jude Marathon Expo. After that we had some real Memphis barbecue at The Bar-B-Q Shop (
check out the video here).

We awakened to a sunny, but cold, day in Mattoon. After taking advantage of the unmanned station to get some pictures on the tracks, we hopped the train to Carbondale. Then we explored the town before his show at Longbranch Coffee House.
