Not sure exactly how I let this one (almost) slip under the radar, but don't fret my pet--I caught it in time. Yes, the second annual Chicago Snuggie Pub Crawl has arrived!

Tomorrow, Saturday April 10, the Snuggie Pub Crawl kicks off at Lincoln Park's very own The Apartment at 12:00 p.m. Closing ceremonies are in the same place at 7:30 p.m., with the pub crawl callin' it quits at 8.

Awesome Barb over on ChicagoNow's That's Awesome has full details and a gallery full of shnazzy Snuggie fashion ideas ripe for your picking.

[The skinny: the Snuggie Pub Crawl is a fundraiser for Karama Connection's AC-Orphanage, powered by Fate-Monkey.com. You can rest assured that your ticket purchase ($22 in advance, $25 at the door, discounts available for groups of five or more) will go toward providing clean water, food, education, clothing and housing for orphans in Tanzania whose parents were victims of HIV and toberculosis. According to this ticketleap blog post, The Apartment will collect non-perishable donations for CPD's annual food drive at check-in, too.]

You can live the Snug life, too! Chicago's Second Annual Snuggie Pub Crawl is Saturday, April 10 starting at noon. (Although I believe this photo comes from a similar event in California). Photo by flickr user Carlos Almandarez.

If you need a reason to go besides simultaneously helping orphans, day-drinking, and wearing a Snuggie in public in a socially-accepted way, there will also be some pretty great drink specials and a raffle with prizes like Lollapalooza and Cubs game tickets.

Eight hours of day-drinking normally sounds like a big disaster, but I'm pretty sure that the Snuggie makes it more than okay. You can count on Lincoln Park Now to be on the scenes, snapping photos for a sweet Snuggie gallery, too!

The news after the jump obviously can't measure up to the excitement factor of a Snuggie bar crawl, but you should "continue reading" for information on some other upcoming Lincoln Park events, too...

OMG: YOU GUYS!!!!

Next Saturday, NHL Star Canadian hockey player and Chicago Blackhawks youngster Brent Seabrook (who was a "pretty high draft pick," a hockey-lusting friend tells me), will be shaking hands at STARFRUIT Cafe (2142 N. Halsted) from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. in Lincoln Park.

After the Olympic hockey war between the U.S. and  Canada, it's a good time to come shake hands for peace.  (Seabrook played for the Canadian team and is likely to become an Olympic Gold Medalist by next Saturday)  A native of British Columbia (home province of Vancouver), Seabrook has been pounding pucks in the U.S. for oh, like five years now.

Surely Seabrook will be twinkling in the eyes of fans young and old- taking photos and signing autographs, while Starfruit opens its doors to a less-than-chilled-out crowd.

Billing itself the "premiere frozen Kefir parlor,"  Starfruit Cafe is pretty hyperlinked up across social media and known as one of those places that makes the finer things "cool."   Last month, Starfruit hosted a Yelp! event, and why wouldn't it?   It's apparently pretty starry eyed on the customer-review catalogue.  Thanks to Facebook, we've learned that DePaul students receive a 10 percent discount.   That's pretty sweet, eh?

Bring hand-wipes, though, hockey fans.   Last thing anyone needs are sticky palms during a celebrity meet and greet.   And no PR stunt would be complete without the chance to win two: free pro-hockey tickets.... where you can see stuff like "ice-punching:"

Well, at least a little bit famous.

Last weekend, Molly and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Anton from funsherpa.com at Lincoln Park's own Savor the Flavor in order to discuss this blog, all the cool things funsherpa has to offer, and a new and exciting relationship between Lincoln Park Now and funsherpa.

Hi, Lincoln Park Now readers, and sorry for my recent post-hiatus. Any of our readers who are also DePaul students will know how crazy the last week has been with winter quarter classes starting, but enough excuses!

Searching the web recently for Lincoln Park topics of interest has only served to remind me that I need to put my New Years resolution exercise plan into motion likerightnow.

Let's blame it on the cold weather.

Earlier today, I was browsing the web looking for some interesting, Lincoln Park-centric news when I came across a posting on BizBash Chicago about two trendy spots to host a private pizza party in Lincoln Park.

I thought, Lincoln Park? Good. Private parties? Good. Steamy, hot, fresh, gooey, delicious pizza? Soooo good.

Defamed? Lincoln Park business files suit over puppy mill protests

I am a recent graduate of DePaul University raising the temperature of journalism in Chicago with wit and fury! I won't work for peanuts, but possibly cashews, or frequent flyer miles.

As Chicago gasped at its first snow sighting of this season Thursday, Pawsh Puppies
of 2120 N. Halsted is feeling the chill a little more than the rest of us.  A defamation lawsuit just filed by Pawsh Puppies against the stream of protesters campaigning against their Northbrook and Lincoln Park stores over the last month is asking:

Shut up, Save A Pet, INC., and pay up!!!

Fellow ChicagoNow legal blog Chicago Bar-Tender details the lawsuit accusing @PuppyMilProject, the not for profit Save-A-Pet, of defaming activism that could irreparably harm the business. Concern flurries throughout the filing that the holiday sales this season could suffer after online and on-the-street demonstrations of the activists "adopt-only" campaign.

The suit claims that Pawsh has been indefinitely stalled in plans to expand the operation in two locations that would be leased by their Northbrook site's management company after video and other messaging tactics were used by Save-A-Pet to insist Pawsh Puppies is supplied by puppy mill breeders.

So how is Lincoln Park business doing?   Very pawsh, indeed, if you visit the company's Facebook page.

Pawsh puppies, a boutique tea cup and toy breed pet shop with Lincoln Park and Northbrook locations is suing Save-A-Pet, Inc./@PuppyMilProject for defamation. Their Facebook status on 11/28/09, after the last protest on Halsted claims a day of record sales despite the protesters "evil efforts."

On Friday, Lincoln Park Now sought some answers from store manager, Alex Gershbeyn, who gladly outlined their case to Lincoln Park Now.   After weeks of steaming commentary tailing Pawsh's headlines on the web, questions have hovered around the company's lack of public disclosure naming their "caring, reputable breeders."  Testimony by animal welfare advocates and consumers is challenging what qualifies a breeder as a puppy mill.

Is Pawsh Puppies in peril?

"No, not at all," Gershbeyn said, at the beginning of a conversation he wasn't sure he should be having at the beginning of litigation.   But it didn't stop there.

Lincoln Park's favorite bars offer Blackout Wednesday specials

By now, most people have probably secured their Thanksgiving plans and are daydreaming about all the delicious food to come. What's not to love about Thanksgiving? It's a day devoted to lounging, eating, and reminiscing with relatives.

But there's another holiday on the horizon that celebrates a different kind of binging--Blackout Wednesday!

I recently learned that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest party nights of the year. I am not sure why this never occurred to me previously, since it makes a lot of sense. People are home (or soon to be headed home) for the holiday and won't have to work the next day. That means that they are free to party hard the whole night before Thanksgiving with very few consequences.

And what better way to nurse a hangover than with cranberry sauce and stuffing?

If you're looking to spend your Blackout Wednesday in Lincoln Park, then you've come to the right place! Lincoln Park Now contacted the 5 highest-rated Lincoln Park bars on Yelp! and  compiled a list of their Blackout Wednesday bar specials just for you!

Just as you are beginning to maybe appreciate the onslaught of holiday media, we've compiled some bulletins to help fill your calendar.   Lincoln Park is absolutely saturated with opportunity to kickstart the season's festivities.  Some free, some frugal, and let's face it 60614, some are priced for the city's fattest pocketbooks (and you tell us if its worth every penny).  Whatever your circumstances, we think this list might help excite your spirit at least a little.

Puppy mill protesters target Lincoln Park's Pawsh Puppies

You know those teeny-tiny, adorable little puppies that are all the rage in Lincoln Park? Well, they've worked some Chicagoans into a rage of their own.

Today at about 1:30 p.m., Twitter user @Davie_St posted two tweets about a big protest he discovered outside of Pawsh Puppies at 2120 N. Halsted in Lincoln Park:

@Davie_St: Passed a lively, homegrown protest outside a Lincoln Park froo-froo doggies-for-sale boutique. Looked like fun!
@Davie_St: Sign: "Here $1500 buys one sick dog. At animal shelters, $1500 adopts 150 dogs." Ah, good point.
