Only a couple months remain in the Lincoln Park Zoo's enormous
reconstruction plan for the south pond--by the end of June, the newly
renovated and completely balanced ecosystem at the Nature Boardwalk
will finally open. And with a $12 million price tag, you can expect the
long-anticipated renovations to be pretty incredible.
Frank Mathie outlined the south pond's planned transformation from 4
acres of mosquito-infested, dirty, stagnant water to the beautifully
balanced, thriving ecosystem at the Nature Boardwalk in this ABC 7
report. Visitors can expect natural vegetation, aquatic vegetation,
birds, fish, turtles, frogs--you name it.
Slightly less in tune with the wilderness setting but still quite
appealing will be the Cafe Brauer beer garden and patio, where visitors
can enjoy food and beverages amidst the wildlife.
But finishing the renovations and re-opening the south pond isn't the
only thing the Lincoln Park Zoo has in store for its Nature Boardwalk...
Remember a few years ago when Latin School struck a controversial deal with the Park District to construct a soccer field in Lincoln Park just east of the Lincoln Park Zoo?
Well after years of fighting with Friends of the Park and everybody else who wanted to be on local talk radio, they built it--and it's beautiful! So beautiful and popular that they are building more of these manufactured turf fields up and down the lake front.

60614 is the buzz right now, Chicago, like when Colbert profiled Quigley (read on if ya missed it...), and even here on ChicagoNow, where I'll just go ahead and award the (make believe) Lincoln Park Now's Winter Blogger Olympic medals to:
Gold: Image of Humanity for spotlighting the Lincoln Park Community Shelter, celebrating 25 years of second chances. Play the moving video and get to know the golden goodness in the neighborhood.... and why Lincoln Park Now's own Jenn gives her time to the people of LPCS.
@ScottBush's twitpic shows the most foursquare activity he's ever seen at the Whole Foods in Lincoln Park... bringing us to the SILVER:
In Good Taste Chicago for sampling the bombastic Lincoln Park Whole Foods in text and images. The mecca of Lincoln Park foursquare, and an altar onto which local Tweets bow in worship, Whole Foods covers the five commandments of Lincoln Park:
Eat (Healthy).
Work (Often and in Whole Foods).
Drink (Alcohol while you're buying healthy foodstuffs).
Hook-up (With a new dish while you're browsing the store).
Shop (While you're browsing the hotties).
Forgive me if I've missed any, and do submit your own!
Bronze:Chicago <3's Trivia bloggers recently dropped by Lincoln Park's own Galway Arms on Clark St. and just had to break the answers to a latest pub quiz.
Don't fret, shenanigans-o-plenty are brewing in the "LP" (as has become shorthand for our little shared webspace).... according to "the Internet"....

In a related story, Lincoln Park will be a much easier Twitter search starting Jan. 4, but who am I to complain? The social media-friendly zoo has also started a feeding schedule via Twitterfor visitors, and created a template to customize and order your own Lincoln Park zoo animal calander or poster.
In honor of our first community submission of Lincoln Park photos, behold some of the most precious candidates for a 2010 Lincoln Park Zoo Calendar...

How is your holiday wish list stacking up now that you have probably
scoped out the shopping scene this weekend? Many Lincoln Park
businesses could be delighting in yours if it's a hopeful who's who of
designer labels. There are also several organizations doing works of
human kindness around the neighborhood just bursting to give you your
good citizenship patches before year's end.... in case that's what
you're really wanting.

Everybody knows you like to give. Scanning this year's semi-annual political donations reveals that Lincoln Park is more about "the gift" than any other zip code in Illinois.... with nearly three quarters of a mil just to political campaigns in the first six months of the year tracing back to 60614.
So,
you big softy, don't cramp your neck seeking somewhere to deposit your
charitable gifts this season; if you're in Lincoln Park you can scratch
several backs around Chicago, especially now as the deep freeze
dread takes a little comfort away from everyone by the day and you're
unfortunately a little more attuned to human suffering.... (Brrrr is right!).

Just as you are beginning to maybe appreciate the onslaught of holiday media, we've compiled some bulletins to help fill your calendar. Lincoln Park is absolutely saturated with opportunity to kickstart the season's festivities. Some free, some frugal, and let's face it 60614, some are priced for the city's fattest pocketbooks (and you tell us if its worth every penny). Whatever your circumstances, we think this list might help excite your spirit at least a little.

What's red and white and jogging all through Lincoln Park? On Saturday, December 5 at 9 a.m. the answer will be runners dressed in Santa costumes--and a lot of them!
Lincoln Park Now is proud to announce the first ever Santa Shuffle 5k run in Lincoln Park, hosted by Adrenaline Sports Management.
After a week long binge on delicious Thanksgiving leftovers, you might find yourself feeling just like Santa with a belly-full-of-jelly. What better way to work it off than to leave the one horse open sleigh at home and dash through Lincoln Park on foot?
Ho-ho-hilarious! Next Saturday, a crowd of Santas will race through Lincoln Park for the Santa Shuffle 5k run. Photo by flikr user HowardLake.
