How to add "be a good samaritan" to your holiday to-do list Lincoln Park style
How is your holiday wish list stacking up now that you have probably
scoped out the shopping scene this weekend? Many Lincoln Park
businesses could be delighting in yours if it's a hopeful who's who of
designer labels. There are also several organizations doing works of
human kindness around the neighborhood just bursting to give you your
good citizenship patches before year's end.... in case that's what
you're really wanting.

Charity, a definition from Chambers dictionary. Used with permission of flickr user HowardLake.
Everybody knows you like to give. Scanning this year's semi-annual political donations reveals that Lincoln Park is
more about "the gift" than any other zip code in Illinois.... with nearly three quarters of a mil just to political campaigns in the first six months of the year tracing back to 60614.
So,
you big softy, don't cramp your neck seeking somewhere to deposit your
charitable gifts this season; if you're in Lincoln Park you can scratch
several backs around Chicago,
especially now as the deep freeze
dread takes a little comfort away from everyone by the day and you're
unfortunately a little more attuned to human suffering....
(Brrrr is right!).
Option #1: Share the "yum" factor.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository launched its annual food
drive at the beginning of November and will continue to ask for all you
can spare until January. If this tickles your generous bone, two
Dominick's Grocers in Lincoln Park are drop-off locations,
959 W. Fullerton, and 2250 N. Clybourn.
You know, just in case you've got a hankering for either of their
in-store sushi bars or Starbucks, and also want to make a difference, and stuff.
Option #2: And/or go right to a shelter itself.
Your local community shelter needs some kitchen supplies, cleaning
supplies, and interviewing spoils for the hard-working citizens who
come to try and jump start their lives. Have a look at their the Lincoln Park Community Shelter's wish list, and maybe knock a little secret Santa at their door. You must schedule a time to make their day, so call ahead: (773) 549-6111, ext. 202.
Option #3: You can prove that charity isn't a beauty contest, animal lovers!
Your zoo friends need some lovin' too. According to the Lincoln Park Zoo's wish list,
many animals' habitats are getting quite the attention from donors.
Since a scan earlier this month, several of their needs have been
met. This is fantastic for the animals, but many of the slimier,
crawly creatures are still hustlin' for help.
Option #4: And what of that hospital on Fullerton that performs life saving miracles on children all the time?
Pretty
much everyone is against sickness affecting children. At least,
everyone in Lincoln Park we have met really despises childhood disease
and would do their share to help fund research and treatments. So that's a given. But there is that house at 622 W. Deming where
parents come to live in emergency situations. They are tired, and
terrified, and Ronald McDonald House tries its best to give them a
space nearby to attempt sleeping and eating.
They have a wish list, too.
Lincoln Park Now recommends the trial size shampoos and conditioners
you've swiped from hotels this year as an excellent way to pay it
forward.
Of course, volunteers are also needed around Lincoln Park for several organizations with year-round wish lists and the like. Lincoln Park Connect has a really long list of ways you can give your spare time and goods.
However
you spread your Lincoln Park love, we won't ask you kiss and tell. But
we would like you to let us know how you see humanitarian efforts at
work in your neighborhood. Comment away, good citizens!

nearly all the guests at RMH are from out of state they dont know the area well and are anxious about a sick child, necessities like toothpaste & shampoo really do make the house feel like a home from home at a nerve racking time.
