OSCARS: Record 20 Animated Films Submitted for Consideration

user-pic

It's November, which means the 2010 Oscar Race is well underway. News broke today that a record 20 films have been submitted for consideration in the "Best Animated Film" category.

They include some good ("Monsters Vs. Aliens"), the bad ("Astro Boy"), and the winner.

It won't even be a competition this year, as Disney/Pixar's "Up" should be a lock to win the category. In fact, with 10 Best Picture nominees to be announced, it wouldn't be shocking if it pulls off a nod in that category as well.

See the full list of nominees in the photo gallery below. The nominations will be announced on Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010.

"Astro Boy" was much better than "Monsters Vs. Aliens". The latter film was ugly (and not in a fun way), had no heart and very little humor. "Astro Boy" was gorgeous, warmhearted and exciting. It's an underrated gem, like "The Iron Giant". Maybe you should try watching the film before you dump on it. I'd love it if it won the Oscar, but probably "Up" will, since Hollywood's in love with all things Pixar (and so am I, to some degree. But "Astro Boy" was still better than "Up" in my view).

Thanks for reading, WaxDragon. I did see "Astro Boy." I found it to be robotic and unoriginal, not very exciting.

We can agree to disagree, but "Up" was spectacular. I don't think there's any budging on that one.
