UPDATE 5:54 p.m.: Chicago Breaking News has posted on the Oprah situation....

Oprah Winfrey will tell viewers on Friday's live program that she will retire her Chicago-based syndicated daytime talk show at the end of the 2010-11 season, Harpo Productions confirmed today.

Read the rest of their entry here.

5:40 p.m.: Just across the wire from the Associated Press, Oprah Winfrey will announce that she will end her talk show in 2011. The report says that Oprah will announce the decision on Friday.

More information will be coming in shortly. Earlier reports said that Oprah may move her show to Los Angeles, but according to the latest bulletin, Oprah's production company is saying the show will "end." This would be after Oprah's 25th season on the air.

I have to say I'm pretty shocked about this news. I thought it was more than likely that Oprah would move her show to Los Angeles, seeing that much of her upcoming "Oprah Winfrey Network" is stationed there, along with some of her syndicated programs. But to call it quits completely? Whoa.

Can you imagine a daytime talk scene without Oprah Winfrey being a part of it? Running a network is one thing, but no Oprah on television? No Ooooopraaaaaah?!

I respect her business savvy attitude and her historical contributions. But I just don't care that Oprah Winfrey's talk show is going off the air. When you'll put the KKK and Sarah Palin on your show but won't allow rappers, I really couldn't give a damn about your show.

Agreed. Sarah Palin was totally on the show for mega advertising dollars. Nothing more. How could you have an educated conversation with Sarah Palin for an hour long talk show? Is that even possible?

Thank the Lord that that fat phony is leaving the air. Shes never did anything for anyone but her own race in my opnion. Also she had Jay Z on a few weeks ago even though he is a cotton candy version now of his old self.

Also whats wrong with Sarah Palin? I guess we live in a world where we love our politicians who want to throw rose pedals at other world leaders and give Miranda rights to non-americans.

Nothing's wrong with Sarah Palin.
As for the Oprah thing, at least she can't promote Eckhart Tolle books anymore!

Many years ago, I walked by a Sun-Times machine and saw a full front page picture and the name "Oprah!" of a woman I knew not. It was at that young age that I discovered the concept of a media creation and at the same time lost all respect for the Sun-Times.

And Mayor Daley is blaming the media for her leaving! He's stated that the media created "a rhubarb" over her closing Michigan Avenue to tape one of her broadcasts, and "if they keep kicking a person, that person will leave." Daley has recently been kicked for being an irresistable target for the International Olympic Committee to slap in the face, while a youth was beaten to death with a 12x4 in the world media on the streets of Chicago, for now being stuck trying to sell the Michael Reese Hospital property for half of what the city just paid, and for selling the parking meter rights to a company that is now in the black $1,000,000 a week by raising meter rates, which the city should have itself done. Won't Daley please leave too????

Prediction: Oprah will announce her candidacy on the tenth anniversary of 9-11, two days after her last show.
