We have great news. The Baseball Project (a power pop supergroup
featuring Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey, Peter Buck from R.E.M. and Linda
Pitmon) is confirmed for our 4th Annual Len & Bob Bash for Chicago
Cubs Charities, presented by Bud Light, at the House of Blues Chicago
on January 14, 2010 to kick off Cubs Convention weekend (it's the 25th
Annual Convention by the way).
The Project is a perfect fit for the show--not only are they an
amazingly talented and tight band, but all their songs are about
baseball. I saw them recently in Chicago and was invited onstage to
introduce their song about Harvey Haddix and they told me to have fun
with it, so I did. There's a line that goes, "Luis Aparicio and
Nellie Fox made the Sox go-go" in my favorite tune, "Past Time." So I
changed it and instead sang, "The Cubs had Billy, Ernie, Fergie and a
guy named Santo."
I think they appreciated the effort and after some email exchanges, we
were able to book them for the show. Thanks to Jef Schmidt from Bud
Light for locking them in and, AS ALWAYS, for making this event happen
in the first place.
We will have more info on the other band on the bill coming up, so
keep checking the blog for more info.
In the meantime, enjoy TBP's performance of "Past Time" on David
Letterman:
