The Return of Reed!

Reed Johnson

 Washed up? Check.

Stupid facial hair? Check.

Desperation move by the Cubs to win back the fans? Check.

Kinda sucky? Check.

I don't care. The Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with Reed Johnson and invited him to camp. And I'm irrationally exuberant about it. After all, now that Sam Fuld is gone, we need someone to crash into the ivy.

And yes, we all know that my love of Reedz orginated when Flyball and I ran into him near the batting cages and he was wearing a very tight t-shirt that showed off his very big muscles. So what? We all have those Cubs who don't deserve our

 devotion.

Who is yours and why?

Cubs who don't deserve our devotion . . . let me think, there's gotta be someone.

That someone would be....the entire roster?? Welcome back Speedy Reedy!!

This is stupid.

And by "this" I mean the signing, not this post.

As to your question: Mark Prior.

But awesome.

I'm old enough to retain fond memories of Mick Kelleher and Jerry Morales. For this current lot, it's Kosuke and Wells.

George Mitterwald signed my tiny souvenir bat. I also liked Barry Foote. I love the fat guys. They gave me hope that I could be a fat ballplayer too.

Guilty....Jerry Morales for me as well.

and well, after seeing the numbers Matt Murton put up in Japan...it was like reliving the Carl "Tuffy" Rhodes era.

I also use to like Augie Ojeda, and then he beat the Cubs to death as all ex-Cubs seem to do when they get their first shot at Cubs pitching.

I once named a cat after Damon Berryhill.

Well...without Sam Fuld, we needed some insane outfielder that will go barreling into brick walls...so it seems like a fit.

Anyone up for an Opening Day rooftop get-together? Opening Day is Friday, April 1, at 1:20 pm. Skybox on Sheffield emailed me with an $89-all-you-can-eat-and-drink deal.

Should we set something up?

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

oops-my bad.

It's actually opening SUNDAY, April 3. Still a 1:20 game. And it's $83.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

That $6 made the difference. I'm in.

Doc said:

user-pic

Ugh...I really need to spend some time with you people...I should do this even though I already have tickets to that game.

1. Shawon Dunston
2.Augie Ojeda
3.Greg Maddux(before he became a jerk)
Thank God, no one has said Palmeiro....

keywestcubfan said:

Yes! Reed Johnson is back! Reed Johnson is back! I'm happy, but it reminds me of Steve Martin in "The Jerk" when he says, "The new phone book is here! The new phone book is here!!"

My vote for Cub who doesn't deserve our devotion? Sammy Sosa. Like a bad relationship, the sex was great, but he cheated on us...

sloan peterson said:

Sammy deSammyed himself in the end, that is why more people don't miss him. But he is to credit(or blame) for me discovering the Cubs.....

keywestcubfan said:

user-pic

Well, you know how it is then. He's big, strong, and handsome, he does all those endearingly cute little things, and others are envious of your very special relationship. Then, when you start finding out certain things about him; even though he comes through for you three times in one game, you still find yourself crying in the bathroom afterward.

Nobody's said Mark DeRosa yet? He was awesome as a fantasy team back-up since he played 5 positions and wasn't as bad as your average waiver wire fodder. (At least, in the league I was in, with 20 teams of 25 players each...)

Doc said:

user-pic

But Mark DeRosa was actually good.

current - Koyie Hill
Matt Clement, although then he got pretty good and it became ok
Joe Borowski

I feel the need, the need for REED.

I'm a mad Welshman who travels from the UK for four homestands a year to live in eteral hope that IT'S GONNA HAPPEN. And it will... Someday.

In a crazier way, I have a man-crush on Reed... this is one player without a huge amount of talent (like me) who hustles every ball... a real lession that if you try your heart out it can happen. As Gary Player said "the more I practice the luckier I get".
