Cubs (Finally) Trade Tom Gorzelanny To The Nats

Yes, you.

I feel like we've been talking about the Cubs trading Gorzelanny since the day after they acquired him.

Today, it finally happened:

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs have traded left-handed pitcher Tom Gorzelanny to the Washington Nationals for three minor league prospects -- two pitchers and an outfielder, according to two major league sources.

The trade is pending a physical that Gorzelanny is expected to take on Tuesday.

The Cubs felt it was necessary to make this move because of payroll constraints, and they felt comfortable with their depth on the pitching staff after acquiring starter Matt Garza from the Rays.

As I said in the post below, when Gorzelanny was introduced at Opening Ceremonies on Friday night, Tim and I both cocked our heads to the side and said "Rhu?" like my dog when she really really wants to understand me, but just doesn't. I was hoping he'd get traded while he was AT Cubs Con. .  like in the middle of an autograph session or something. . . and just get up an leave.

Alas, the Cubs never do anything that interesting.

At any rate, farethewell, Tom. Enjoy DC and pitch well and all that good rot. It's true that half the time I completely forgot you were on the team, but I wish you all the best.

More details on the minor league prospects as we get them.

OFer Michael Burgess the first prospect confirmed going to the Cubs. Lefty OFer drafted in first round by Nats back in 2007.

Ah, yes, we need more lefty outfielders to replace the lefty outfielders for which we had no room and had to send to Tampa.

Don't we need a long-term solution for first base? Somehow...?

I hold no hope that Pooh-holes is coming. Fielder is so fat...

Poor Sloth... he looked defeated at the CubsCon anyways... like he knew he wasn't long for having such great fans.

Yeah, but now with the Nationals, he's got fans like Gravedigger-- Oh. Never mind.

This would be just perfectly okay with me if not for the fact that every single freakin' winter we find Hendry scrambling to find a LEFTY STARTER! Even though it doesn't matter to anyone else...

At least he has something to strive for again, now that his team is officially PERFECT!!!

Lefties? Who needs lefties?

We don't need no stinkin' lefties.

It's not that... it's just that Hendry always thinks he needs one when he doesn't have one, then when he does have one, he realizes it's just Steve Trachsel standing in a mirror.

Who's going to fill that horrible void for him, James O. Russell? Maybe that new kid they got... What's his name, I forgot already.

Zachary Rosscup.

Zachary Rosscup!

"Hello, my name is Zachary Rosscup. I am looking for the tiny Cardinal shorstop. Prepare to die!"

No, this doesn't work. How can you fear a "Rosscup" when you're standing at the plate?

Every time Hendry does something, I get upset, and then I don't make any sense.

I'm sorry.

So...you're telling me that you don't make any sense all the time?

One of my best LOLs in a long time.

Work on Michael Burgess is that he's a short, powerful OFer who has never lived up to the hype around him.

He'll fit in perfectly. Jake Fox, Part II.

Maybe he just needs a different sort of hype - how's this: I expect Burgess to ride a lot of busses to small towns next summer, either in the mid-south or the midwest. I expect him to stike out far too much to ever merit a spot on a major league roster, and I expect him surely to be stuck behind BJackson, RJohnson and FPerez all season long.

I bet he can live up to that...

...AND get called up in September regardless.
