Keith Moreland did well when he subbed in last season.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

OMG--Keith Moreland is SO BORING.

Doc said:

user-pic

You're SO BORING!

ZONK!!!!

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

False. I would be awesome in that booth.

Doc said:

user-pic

yeah...awesome and boring.

I vote for Sammy "Beisbol been berry berry good to me" Sosa. I mean, I realize he's a jerk and nobody likes him, but if he just forgot how to speak English like he did in front of Congress, he could be almost as good in the booth as Ron.

Carl Heartscubs Gierhan said:

user-pic

I could definitely endorse this plan.

PsyMar1 said:

user-pic

Or failing that, could we get the Futbol announcer from that Geico commercial where he announces a chess match? "And here's the pitch... GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

Doc said:

user-pic

I see that Judd Sirott (you spelled it wrong) logged on and voted for himself.

Carl Heartscubs Gierhan said:

user-pic

Hector Villanueva

Doc said:

user-pic

AH HA!!!! Can I change my vote?

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

does Hector even speak english?

Carl Heartscubs Gierhan said:

user-pic

Does it matter?

Doc said:

user-pic

Pat speaks enough english for both of them anyway.

Rich Beckman said:

I know this is heretical, but Grace would be my absolute last choice.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

Me too. 37% of the blog so far thinks Grace should be it. *headdesk*

If we want a drunky in the booth (and I do) it oughtta be Sutcliffe.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

This is because Grace sometimes has no filter. For those times, it would be worth it.

Doc said:

user-pic

It won't be worth it when he gets suspended and we're stuck with Dave Otto for a week.

Doc said:

user-pic

Yeah...the quality of readers on this blog is dropping rapidly. And I didn't think it could drop any lower after I joined it.

Doc said:

user-pic

Last choices are tomorrow's poll.

jarowcliffe said:

I think a lot of the reason people dont want grace is because of what he said after the 01 WS...GET OVER IT. He had every right to be upset with the Cubs. His commentary is not bad at all...every bit as good as Brenly

Teebob2000 said:

user-pic

I don't even remember that. I don't want him because he freaking sucks.

jarowcliffe said:

user-pic

I have to disagree...his style is like that of many other former players. From a players point of view. He isn't going to give you in depth analysis but he will give you insight

Teebob2000 said:

user-pic

I get what you're saying, I just don't see it myself. And I've TRIED to like him, watched D'Back's games just for that reason. Twice a season on Fox, maybe he's tolerable, but hearing him night after night.... eeeesh...

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

He does suck on FOX, but if you listen to him tell stories at Cubs Con or on Chicago radio, he's hilarious and engaging. If we could get THAT Mark Grace, instead of "broadcaster Mark Grace," it would be a perfect fit.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Shoot. I forgot to put Karros in the poll.

Doc said:

user-pic

Moot point...he's not leaving LA.

AndCounting said:

user-pic

Um . . . Colin Wyers.

Doc said:

user-pic

Wow. Just...wow.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I'll go with Harry Pavlidis. Not only does he know his MLB baseball, he keeps me up-to-date on Winter Ball.

AndCounting said:

user-pic

Yeah, Harry. Let's go with him. When Pat asks him in the first inning, "Tell us about Randy Wells," Harry could spend the next three innings giving a detailed response. It would be glorious.

2 nominations: Rick Sutcliffe and Mitch Williams- good night!!

kiwibob said:

I really enjoyed listening to Randy Hundley when he subbed in a few years ago. I like his accent... he sounds like the narrator off The Big Lebowski...

HackWilson09 said:

We should just hire Sam Elliot then. He has to call Pat "Dude" all the time though.

Proggy said:

user-pic

I think, in memorium of Ron, and in light of the Cubs chances this year, Pat should work alone with nothing but a recording of Santo's OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It'll be like he's not even dead.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Early contender for Post Of The Day.

summerguy said:

@Proggy ... We wouldn't even notice Ron was gone.

I wrestled with this in a fever all of last night.

I want the Spaceman Bill Lee. He's irreverent and funny, he loves everything about the game of baseball except for the things that are terrible about it. He never played for the Cubs and therefore he has no reason to hate them. He's getting too old to pitch and play first base in the senior leagues of Canada and Cuba. He would be very, VERY entertaining.

If it has to be an ex-Cub, I do like Sutcliffe a lot. He's got a sense of humor and he says more than he should - great qualities. Grace is just too full of himself, and all he'll ever talk about is the shortcomings of whoever is wearing #17 this year.

In the words of Harry Carey:
"Sutcliffe spelled backwards is Effilctus."

badassonhand said:

wrong, Grace is not an analysis. he's a little better than Santo doing TV. he is no Brenly and Rick is a homer, every Cub is great. Grace always was threatening to leave unless he got a big raise, finally they said good-bye. the job calls for an analysis. remember it's not the money, he has to agree to play the attendance game.

jarowcliffe said:

user-pic

Grace wanted to play for league minimum but Sosa didnt want him on the team, had nothing to do with money...Grace basically offered to do the same thing that Kerry Wood did, play for peanuts just to play for the Cubs...the difference is Wood is a hero for it and Grace went to the D-Backs and won a world series...so now he is a turd.

I like Brenly, I have really grown to like him a lot actually but he is not a "great" analyst, I feel. The first time I heard him say, "Yes, honey. Youre right. I'm Sorry." about newlyweds, I thought it was funny. The 237th time I heard it, it pissed me off. The 768th time it doesnt bother me anymore, lol.

How about Ozzy Osbourne? Might need an interpreter though.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

as long as he doesn't sing. :)

danieldschell said:

I'd be happy with Steve Stone back in the booth. I might be the ONLY one who feels that way, but I thought he was great in the Cubs booth. I love Randy Hundley, but he has a voice for sign language; I couldn't listen to him for any length of time.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

squeeee! hi daniel!

he was good in the Cubs booth once upon a time, but since then, he's spent so much time ripping on the Cubs, I think he's effectively burned his bridges.

danieldschell said:

user-pic

Then I'm voting for Harold Reynolds.

spectorisanut said:

user-pic

My vote is for Steve Stone. The Cubs would never go that route after what happened last time. It was refreshing for an announcer to be critical of the Cubs when it was deserved. I have effectively stopped watching the Cubs on TV with Brenly and Kasper on the call as it puts me in a deep sleep. I lived in South Florida for a time and had to endure Kasper with the Marlins- so it's been a double whammy.
