Monday Moning Headlines

photo: José M. Osorio
The Cubs won yesterday! And the fun part, they got to play spoiler to another team's win streak (yes, its petty, I don't care, its fun) and they played spoiler to the White Sox. Normally I wouldn't gloat this much, especially since I did nothing other than sit on the couch and watch Tylermania! hit a 3 run homer, but at 9 yesterday morning a friend mentioned something about the winning streak and who they were playing today, so I feel that kind of hubris deserves a loss.

Plus its something other than Zambrano to talk about. Oh wait, that was still the headline EVERYWHERE this morning. I don't really want to talk about that right now, its Monday morning and I'm trying to stay positive.
So lets talk about Ron Santo!

"Fifty years that I have had...I have been a fan and a broadcaster and a player...without those fifty years, I don't think I would be alive today. So (the Cubs) keep me alive. I doubt very much that they will ever kill me, to be honest with you.

You can always count on Ronnie.

Ok, back to Zambrano. To be honest, after the initial whatever wore off I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've been known to get annoyed and upset at work, so I should allow others the same courtesy. However, I show up to work the next day. And the Cubs are playing with a 24 man roster. And its affecting other players careers like sending Jeff Stevens back to Iowa. Although at least Brian Schlitter got to join the team. So now I'm over this, I'm over the drama, I'm over the antics, I'm over the fact that Zambrano and the team are acting like high schoolers and won't call each other. Deal with it people, like adults, and team, if you're fed op with Zambrano, well I don't blame you, but now its time to do something about it.

End of rant. Hmm, good news good news good news. Lets hear it people, I want some positivity!

I've decided I have to view the Pirates coming to town as a positive thing. Whatever psychological advantage they seem to have had on the Cubs this year, they are still as terrible as a major-league baseball team gets. The Cubs should have a four-game winning streak by the time the Reds come to Wrigley.

They probably won't, but they should.

I'll do my best to bring the Cubbies a win. Though I think I'm on a 3 game losing streak attending Cubs games

I've got faith in you to bring us a win. If you noticed, I said faith in "you," not the team. Go Cubs. Or, should I say, "Go Plamorte!"

You can do it!

I'm just glad this morning's headline wasn't "Lee, Colvin Miscalculate Hi-Five; Both Break Forearms"

Or- "Colvin,Lee react to Schlitter's call-up."

It looks like they miscommunicated if they were going to do a high-five or the Bash Brothers forearm thing and ended up doing both.

And what is up with Colvin's right arm? Is that a bruise? Is his arm broken? Is his muscle torn in half or something? I was completely grossed out the more I looked at it, which means that you all have to do the same, now.

It was positively great to see facts trump words over the weekend. I'm just sorry I missed out on all the conversation.

Good to see a W yesterday, sad thing is we're not even to the All-Star break yet. Lonnnnnnnnnnnnng season, sigh.

With this team, you need to look for some sort of silver lining. Today, it's that the pigpen hasn't completely blown a game in awhile. It's not much, but it's something.

True, it's all about the small victories. Because, the big ones are hard to find.

I feel as though Ronnie just jinxed himself with that last statement. I disagree, I DO think this team will kill him one day. See we have the choice of just not watching when this team sucks ass... he has to sit there and be forced to watch the train wreck AND attempt to talk about it. I think the best move he made was to no longer travel to away games. I couldn't stand watching this team for all 162 games either.

this teams in the Schlitter.

Sorry, too easy. I know.

Did they find Z yet?

Still hanging out with Ozzie.

One of the LA sportsfools offered to trade Z for Manny. Then they showed the TB fight between Upton & Longoria, and suggested TB trade Upton for z....

The theory on ESPN radio on Friday was that we are trying to piss Z off to the point that he will waive his no trade clause.

We essentially tried to make him go Hulk Smash.

JulieDiCaro said:

this has been my theory ever since they sent him to the bullpen.

I'm pretty sure, Hey Carlos, we want to trade you to a good team, would work better

Throw in "and we'll let you play 1st base" and he'll play for free.

Okay, I need to compile a trivia team for Chicago Hearts Trivia's trivia night on July 7 at Harrigan's. Who's with me?

Eric From The Dugs said:

Really wanted to participate in this. Loves me some trivia. But I've got softball in Naperville that night.

I was going for Cubs-related good news. Much harder to come by.

But yeah, that too.

Umbra said:

As the Cubs spiral further and further out of contention and watchability, I have to have something to keep me going.

I'd normally pick the Brewers, but they suck. Maybe the Twins? The Twins and Stephen Strasburg.

How is it possible that I'm productive on Mondays? There must be something completely wrong with me. Is it time to go home yet?
