Cubs Crosstown Game Thread: Now With Live Crosstown Chat!

mikeypunch.jpg

One in a row! One in a row! One in a row!

So we haven't won NINE in a row like the hotshots on the other side of town. Like WE couldn't win 9 in a row with Alex Rios and Carlos Quentin on our team. I'd like to see them do that with Ryan Theriot and Koyie Hill in their starting lineup.

Jerks.

Lots going on today, kids.

Of course, we have the backend of the Crosstown Series kicking off this afternoon at 3:05 pm CT. Julie & Alex's Excellent Sports Adventure  (featuring Rock Mamola) comes on at noon, followed by Wrigley Talk Friday at 1:00 pm CT.

Annnnnnnd. AND. We're also going to enter into a friendly wager with my idiot White Sox fan friend, Rock Mamola. Finally, we'll have a live game chat with White Sox fans (eeeewww) going on during the game.

To wrap it all up, I'll be on WGN radio tomorrow morning at 11:00 am CT, talking Crosstown baseball.  Come on Cubs, don't make me look bad.

But before ALL of that, I've gotta run out and have breakfast with a client this morning. I'm afraid you'll all have to entertain yourselves for an hour or so until I get back.

To get you started, here's a random headline:

SEATTLE -- Lou Piniella said Wednesday the Cubs will stick with 12 pitchers when Aramis Ramirez returns from the disabled list this weekend, meaning one of the infielders has to go.

Chances are it will be either Chad Tracy or Jeff Baker, who have been sharing third base in Ramirez's absence. The Cubs could keep both if they went with 11 pitchers.

"The thought is that we're going to need the 12 pitches, especially with 20 games in a row (until the All-Star break)," Piniella said.

Both Baker and Tracy are out of options and would be designated for assignment if either is the odd man out. Baker has been effective against left-handers with a .352 average entering Wednesday, but he was hitting .030 (1-for-31) against right-handers. The left-handed hitting Tracy is batting .256 against right-handers and has only two at-bats (0-for-2) against left-handers.

I really hope someone is with Aisle424 when he reads of his beloved Jeff Baker being on the chopping block; the last thing I need is him offing himself before the podcast today.

Finally today, big ups to abe frohman for our awesome new crosstown banner. That thing is all kinds of awesome.

Because I'm too busy/lazy to put up a completely separate game thread, we'll just keep using this one:

Game time: 3:05 pm

Channel: CSN/WGN

Pitchers: Big Z. v. Jake Peavey

Lineup to come!

I'll post the link to the live chat (video chat optional) as we eak closer to game time.

I've... got something... for YOU!!!

A true classic.

That and that guy ripping his car door off its hinges.

Doc said:

There are only two things that Michael Barrett did that ever made me happy...

1. Punching A.J.
2. Getting traded to San Diego.

I hope he's enjoying his involuntary retirement.

Comiskey Park looks much better when it is all blurry.

That's the vision the average White Sox fan sees after all the MGDs.

It will be interesting to hear you on WGN!! I listened to the chicagonow show last week for the first time and was impressed. I'll tune in again to catch you talking about the Cubs beating down the White Sox. I hear Zambrano is guaranteeing victory. Peace.

thisyearcub said:

We're going streaking!

PS: Take away the Rock Mamola part and I'll listen. He should stick to not researching things and writing about them.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

it's more fun to listen to me and Rock go at it. listening to me beat down Alex every week was getting dull.

We're just gonna use this as the game thread for today.

Wrigley Talk Friday coming up in 16 minutes. Link is above!

And the verdict...

Chad Tracy.

DFA.

I wrote up a post where I have assembled his highlights as a Cub over at CDE.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I saw the Tribute. RIP Chad Tracy. . you were no Aramis Ramirez, but at least you hit the ball once in a while.

flyball said:

user-pic

I feel like it should be RII, Rest in Iowa, because its less morbid

Doc said:

user-pic

That's under the assumption that the Orioles don't pick him up off of waivers.

flyball said:

user-pic

RIFP, Rest in Fells Point?

Eric From The Dugs said:

You could swap out the "but" for "because" this year.

Doc said:

user-pic

or swap out "but" for "butt" this year.

Doc said:

user-pic

And, yes, I have the maturity of a 4th grader.

flyball said:

user-pic

can I complain a moment? no? well too bad

how come another late game, where i could get home and watch part of it, and it is not on WGN, this makes me sad

Doc said:

user-pic

Well, the explanation is quite simple...the world is out to get you.

flyball said:

user-pic

way to be snarky, put me in my place, and yet not come off as mean, excellent work Doc

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

it will be on WGN, it'll just be Hawk and Stone, I think.

flyball said:

user-pic

really? yay!

Doc said:

user-pic

Um...actually...Hawk and Stone? I'll pass.

flyball said:

user-pic

also the BP Cup dimishes the Windy City Classic moniker, however, not enough to make it as bad of a name as the Battle of Beltways for the Nationals/Orioles series, does anyone outside of Canton MD know that there is such thing as the Baltimore Beltway? "I'm inside the Beltway, yeah, I live in Towson" that never happens

please MLB come up with a better name

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I can't wait to hear everyone boo when the BP Cup is finally presented. That'll teach the Ricketts to sell out a meaningless interleague series!

Doc said:

user-pic

don't worry, I'm sure the Rickettses are getting many millions of dollars on this deal so they can afford to hire more 90 year old ushers around Wrigley.

cadarnell said:

user-pic

they’re due to lose and were’re due to ... well, let's just leave it at that ... GO CUBS!!!!!

Doc said:

user-pic

oh great...we are going to have live crosstown chat. I am overwhelmed with excitement.

Is this season over yet?

flyball said:

user-pic

who is "we"

Doc said:

user-pic

well...I'm assuming that there are at least 2 losers out there that will want to go into the chat room today. I supposed I'll be one of those losers.

flyball said:

user-pic

I didn't see that it was LOHO, I thought you were talking about something else

Doc said:

user-pic

oh...well, my statement still stands.

plamorte said:

user-pic

started good then fizzled when there was demands for a peep show (not from me for the record) Also learned Julie doesn't know what a "gray bush" is

Dmband said:

user-pic

This is exactly what we needed.

Start the fire sale.

I wonder if Big Z and D Lee were arguing about who is worse this season.

Im done.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Looked like Z came in, yelling at no one in particular, and Lee said "Shut the f*ck" up!" Then Z started yelling at Lee.

Either way, Lou should have left him in. At least someone on this team was finally fired up about something.

flyball said:

user-pic

oh Z, Barrett will allow himself to get hit, D Lee will not

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

i think, after the Chris Young incident, we all know that DLee can't throw a punch.

flyball said:

user-pic

I'll take D Lee in a dugout brawl over Z any day, for one thing

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

oh, not me. Z is freakin' nuts; he won't be bound by the restraints of common decency or fair play.

flyball said:

user-pic

something about Lee leads me to believe that if adequately provoked he will not back down, plus who do you think would have more backup?

mostly I think its a fight that would never happen, and thats why Lee can be the one to actually say something to him

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

i imagine lee fighting like a gentleman, and Z fighting like a professional wrestler.

cadarnell said:

user-pic

"At least someone on this team was finally fired up about something." ~cubbiejulie .... well said !~!

Dmband said:

user-pic

reported on the radio was that Big Z was upset at D lee's lacksadasical effort on a ground ball that prompted the tirade.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I know this isn't popular to say, but I don't blame him. DLee has had a terrible season and doesn't seem all that concerned about it. Granted, he probably DOES care, but it just doesn't look that way.

plamorte said:

user-pic

we need a humorous break from this awful stretch of baseball. maybe a photoshop post, What should the Cubs do with Z" or Lee.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

God Lord, did Omar Vizquel just steal 2nd?

plamorte said:

user-pic

standing up i hear

Dmband said:

user-pic

Julie-

Bottom line is Big Z was actually right in this instance. D Lee loligagged on that play.

Someone in the press box was heard saying, "Fred Sanford could've made that play. "

cadarnell said:

user-pic

ok ... what did I mis ... anything exciting?

sloan peterson said:

default userpic local-auth auth-type-mt

Computer went down, just spent 45 minutes talking to Felicia from Mumbai-nothing worked. Sister pluged and unplugged router- now it works.
Second thought-why couldn't Z have gone to the press box and beaten up Stone? I missed the play, but DLee has not had a good week defense-wise....

MillsChC said:

user-pic

Haha... Lou said Z was upset cause he felt some of the players should've dove for the grounders he gave up... then Lou said that that wouldn't have helped the ball that landed in the seats on a 2-strike pitch.

Lou rules.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

HAHAHAHAHA!!

Funny.

cadarnell said:

user-pic

I saw the post game portion of Lou's interview shown on WGN (wish I'd seen all of it) ... man ... I really feel sorry for Lou ... he already had his hands full with a very under performing team and now this to deal with. I really think it would be in every ones best interest if he just stepped down. I don't know who would want the job right now, but the season's probably done at this point anyway, so it doesn't matter. Lou would be better off doing anything but managing the Cubs. Z was wrong, but I sure didn't mind seeing someone in a cubs uniform getting as pissed as all of us are about this shit-butt season we have going here.. The Sox still can suck it though.. I hate um !!!
