Very Quick Starlin Castro (and Chicago Cubs) News (and a Radio-Listening Reminder)

Starlin Castro, Ass Kicker
Nice work, kid

20-year-old Starlin Castro had a good Friday.  His AA manager woke him up at 7:00 a.m. to tell him he had been called up to the Cubs.  Fortunately, Castro was ready.

Perhaps "ready" is an understatement.  Castro:

  • hit a three-run homer in his first major-league at-bat (opposite field, no less)
  • hit a three-run triple
  • set a major-league record for a debut with six (SIX!!) RBIs

How crazy was Friday?  Mike Fontenot hit a pinch-hit grand slam.

Mr. Miles says it best

The Cubs needed a spark. What they got was a bonfire.

The igniter was rookie shortstop Starlin Castro. Fresh from his morning call-up from Class AA Tennessee, the 20-year-old Castro enjoyed a record-setting performance in the Cubs' 14-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.

How did Castro feel?

"Good, really good," he said in English, as he also got interpreting help from coach Ivan DeJesus.

Let's hope he can do it again....

Oh, and don't forget to listen to Julie on ChicagoNow Radio (that's WGN 720AM for those not wanting to listen online) at 11:30 a.m. today!

No, I read some of yours on the air (the ones I can remember). I didn't know if it was okay to say your name on the air, so I just said "one of the guys from my blog came up with" them.

But. . . I'm going the game thread now and I'm going to give you credit so those who heard it on the air will see it tonight.
