The Hawk Lets Hanley Have It

Hawk8.jpg
Even though we're all feeling bad about the current Cubs, we can at least feel good about former Cubs.

It appears that Andre Dawson (with help from some other guy), saved the Marlins, as well as many, many fanasy teams:

Hall of Famers Andre Dawson and Tony Perez took Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez aside on Tuesday and let him know he needed to apologize and atone for failing to hustle and showing up his manager, according to The Palm Beach Post.

I don't know how Hanley felt about it, but getting set down to "talk" with Andre Dawson would be for me somewhere up there with being "set down" by B.A, Barracus or my dad. Especially when he says things like this:

Dawson said he did most of the talking, according to the report. He said he started the lesson this way, with Perez at his side: " 'I'm not going to say a lot, because if you say the wrong the thing to me, then you might wind up on the floor on your rear end.'

According to the Post, Dawson added: " 'But you've got to start thinking about setting an example and having your teammates respect you in the manner that they should. That act that you put on, that's poor. That's not going to cut it.' "

I wet my pants just reading that.

Shortly after, Hanely apologized.

Awesome. Hanley needed to be seriously taken to the woodshed.

Me either. I hope he yells at everyone like Ryno did.

Hee! Ryno's HoF speech goes down as one of the best for me. Although if Santo goes in alive (knock on wood), I have a feeling we'll all be crying.

Hawk also said "This is from me to you," and then gave up the story to the Palm Beach Post. Kind of sends the wrong message. Everything he said was perfectly true, and appropriate, but airing a personal conversation like that is kind of a dick move.

Also agreed.

Yabbut if he hadn't given up it up, I would have had nothing to post after the game ended at 12:05 yesterday. So I consider it a personal favor.

I never thought of it like that, but I guess it is sorta bad that the Hawk put that story out there. But we don't know the whole story. Maybe the Ramirez kid wanted it out there for some reason ... maybe he thinks it somehow makes the *apology* even more insincere looking.. I was listening to Tim McCarver talk about it and I think he's right. He said the level of the *apology* didn't match the deed ....

Hey--Hanley is the one who talked to the press first. Remember the whole 'I don't have to apologize to anyone' thing? It wasn't like he was standing in the corner talking to himself.

He put his side of the story out there, I'm not sure why he's entitled for the team to respect his privacy. When a player talks to the press and complains about his teammates and managers, I don't see any problem with the team taking their side to the press.

Unless all parties agreed that the story needed to go public in order to end it. The Marlins clearly did not like the national attention this got, which only happened because it's Hanley. If it was Dan Uggla, no one outside of Dade County would have cared.

The way Dawson was like, "and then I said this"..."and then I said that" -- he seemed very eager to give a blow by blow transcription.

So it appeared that CN didn't eat my comment last night.

GD- I just went in and took off all the excess ones... It was easier than staring at the same comment a bazillion times in a row...
