Cubs/Hawks Live Game Thread: Let's Try This Again

Well. We might as well not PRETEND we're not all going to flip over to the Hawks game at 8:30, right?

Hey, I have an idea for tonight. See this picture right here----->?

If this happens tonight, how about if we DON'T anihilate a 20-year old's self-esteem for a change? You know, just see how it works out? Maybe remember that he's only 20, he's not done growing physically or emotionally. That his brain won't be fully mature for another 5 years. That he's a million miles from home and barely speaks English and was rushed to the majors to fix a problem that isn't his fault. Let's try to remember that none of us wanted a million people staring at us when we got our first REAL job, but that he doesn't have a choice.

You know, the kind of thing that proves we all have a soul and not a deep black pit inside us?

Let's try that tonight.

Game time: 7:05 pm CT

Pitchers: Randy Wells (3-1, 4.86) v. Ricky Nolasco (2-2, 4.08)

Channel: CSN, WGN radio

Lineup:

fukudome rf
theriot 2B
byrd cf
lee 1B
rami 3B
soriano lf
soto C
castro ss
wells p

Why Rami and DLee are in the 4 and 5 spots is completely lost on me.

Oooh, ice cream! I'm in.

flyball said:

user-pic

its really yummy ice cream, after a particularly crappy day I recommend the rice crispy treat waffle cone

JulieDiCaro said:

i'm vegan, so i'm only in for sorbet.

flyball said:

user-pic

they have vegan sorbet (dude, I'm in the most liberal place ever, there are vegan burritos around here)

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

we have those, too. but vegan sorbet is hard to come by.

flyball said:

user-pic

see, that right there is why I won't be vegan

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I didn't think it would stick, to be honest. I kept saying I was going to be 80% vegan, 100% vegetarian.

Then, one day after being vegan for about a month, I ate cheese pizza. I felt like I was dying.

This is why vegans don't fall off the wagon. When you do, you pay for it.

I do know where you can get a vegan bagel and cream cheese though

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

so do i--whole foods.

;P

flyball said:

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

it's only fair--he's already cause more runs than darlin' starlin did.

Doc said:

user-pic

No booing yet tonight...some grumbling after the homers...but this is not a happy crowd. Things might get nasty here.

flyball said:

Ron said "don't even think about home runs tonight" (I'm probably paraphrasing) I guess he just meant the Cubs

Doc said:

user-pic

The wind isn't actually blowing that hard tonight. So, really homers shouldn't be that unexpected.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Everyone must have read my post from earlier.

Doc said:

user-pic

I think it is my menacing presence that is keeping everyone behaved to this point.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

So, the Nats are winning while the Cubs are losing. We're really not far off from this being official for me.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

whats your reason for being vegan/vegetarian, julie? i could NEVER give up meat.

jarowcliffe said:

user-pic

Thats what she said...

Doc said:

user-pic

No...that's what he said.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

50% political/environmental (the leading cause of deforestation all over the world is clear cutting for cattle); 30% i feel SO much better when I steer clear of animal products, and 20% the fact that meat started seriously grossing me out all of a sudden about 2 years ago.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

i dont really care about the environmental thing. but i had a friend a few years ago, we were eating chicken drumsticks, and she all of a sudden screamed, "HOLY SHIT I'M EATING A BODY PART OF AN ANIMAL!"

Her vegetarianism didn't last long, but meat just totally grossed her out for a while.

Doc said:

user-pic

No..but the girls in front of me keep talking about how cold their boobs are.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

arguably worse. at least starlin didn't have to hear it.

Doc said:

user-pic

Considering how annoying they are...yeah.

That was a good at bat even if the end result was a strike out. He battled and he was dead-on that one fast ball that he pulled foul into the corner.

jarowcliffe said:

user-pic

He doesnt look as lost as he has lately during this game

One of the reasons he is not getting rest is that his backup is Baker, who is hitting about .210, and is "incapacitated". By the way, anyone who thinks the fart-lighting incident is a joke should access the Comcast On-Demand feature tomorrow, and watch the game again. (Barf bags not included). Several times they panned into the Cubs dugout, and three times they showed Baker sitting on what looks like a down pillow. Once they zoomed in on the pillow. And did you notice they have been dancing around Grabows absence? They said he had an MRI on his knee, which conveniently proved to be negative, but never once mentioned any injury or soreness in the knee. And Lilly never came into contact with the fire. He just handed the Bics to Grabow.
