Chicago Cubs Wednesday Headlines: Oh hey, the Blackhawks won!

Last night the Blackhawks beat the Canucks 5-1 to advance to the Western Conference finals. In other news, there was a Cubs game. Cubs lost again to the Marlins with a score of 3-2.

Another shakeup of the lineup does not get results:

Cubs manager Lou Piniella inserted Kosuke Fukudome into the leadoff spot Tuesday, and also moved Derrek Lee down from the No. 3 hole to cleanup. "What we're going to try and do here is create a couple hit-and-run situations if we can," Piniella said. "And we're putting those combinations together. (Ryan) Theriot hits the ball to right. Fukudome's on-base percentage is a little over .400. There's not much difference between the one and two holes. You come up to bat in the first inning."

Ramirez advises Castro to ignore the booing:

"We can't do anything about it," Aramis Ramirez said. "You can't control that. They pay their money and can do anything they want. They buy their tickets. The only thing you can control is what you do on the field." Ramirez talked to Castro about his three-error game Monday night. The last Cubs player to commit three errors in one game was Ramirez, on Sept. 2, 2008. "I told him that's baseball," Ramirez he said. "(Three errors) can happen to anybody. It happened to him last night, but I'm pretty sure if you watch baseball long enough, you're going to see that happen to somebody else."

I absolutely would not boo Castro individually, but I sure the fuck will boo this team as a whole.

I'm booing the booers.

Also GD, I saw your Facebook message. Let's talk LOST, since the Cubs suck like a $20 pro.

I agree the episode moved slow last night, but I think it sets it all up. Plus, the writers have had all this in place for a while now.

I think they really could have just moved that episode up earlier in the season, since it really had no connotation to what was going on in the sideways world.

Here's the thing. They gave some answers, but they also gave a clear signal with the "Every answer just raises more question" line that they're not going to give the answers they promised.

I've been alright with this season so far, it was just that last night's episode was supposed to seriously push the story along. There are 3.5 hours of story left and most of the major aspects of the island mythology have not been answered.

That's a good catch. JJ Abrams has already said not every question will be answered (probably stuff like what happens to Vincent the Dog, little stuff like that), but I think they're about go balls-out in these last episodes. I may have to watch twice just to catch everything.

I think we can expect a torrent of answers in the last 30-45 minutes of the finale. The penultimate show is going to be a lot of action and running around. At some point, though, MIB, Widmore, or Jacob (though Hugo) is going to have to just sit down and explain a few things.

You guys gotta see this before they discover what happened, and remove it from the site. A certain Cubs player either forgot to put on his cup and sliding shorts, or didn't expect to enter the game, or was showing off, but he was photographed running the bases, and about 2/3 of his wee wee is visable. Those road grays are a more clingy fabric than the pinstripes. I won't mention the player's name, but it is on a major news photography website, and is from the May 7 game. This player has been known to show off his manhood in the clubhouse, according to Koyie Hill, so now you know the guy pictured is not Hill.

that blind item is too hard, pardon the pun.

Edelweiss said:

It wasn't hard.

gravedigger said:

The pun or the.. other?

Edelweiss said:

The other, but it was very visable.

If you enter "Cubs", you will find it on the second page, but if you enter the players name, it will be the last picture posted for him.

I have no idea what site this is in reference to.

Edelweiss said:

OK I have only a few hours battery time, and the signal behind first base is weak, but it is Associated Press Photos. You will still have to guess the player, but he was trotting around the basesbecause he had homered.

gravedigger said:

there is NO WAY that's his dick

Edelweiss said:

First of all, whose? Second of all, it's only 2/3 of it, and third, why not?

link.

If you Google AP Photos, you will get the site. Then look at the Cubs May 7 game. There are 2 pages of that game. It would be quicker if you remember who hit a grand slam on that date, and search his name.

Aramis is broken.

Send him to the bullpen.

Doc said:

I still say that they should bat him leadoff.

sometimes I think I could tell how the cubs are doing based on how much people are swearing here

I gotta get to the ballpark, so I'm signing off. Enjoy your search, and you will thank me for the tip, but don't wait too long. If they look at that picture too closely, they will thimk it is porn.

Doc said:

Looks like Korey Patterson is about to be recalled by the Orioles. The truth is, next to Matt Wieters, he might end up being their best player right now. They suck.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

And the Nats are 18-15, 2.5 out of first place.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

The Cubs are 14-20. 6 games under. Hahahaha this team sucks so much.

Doc said:

user-pic

yet there was still about 30,000 people in the ballpark last night to watch this sucky team.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

I dont understand this. What is the draw? Are people really that blindly optimistic? Do they enjoy concrete falling on their heads? Or maybe they're the same people who rubberneck after a car wreck?

Doc said:

user-pic

Well, based on what I saw, most people where their to drink bad beer and talk about how cold their boobs were (see last night's game thread for an explaination.)

Luckily, I was able to have a nice conversation with Les the beer vendor about who Ricky Nolasco was traded for....(from the Cubs to the Marlins as part of the Juan Pierre deal.)

Doc said:

user-pic

Oh...and I'm not sure what my problem was, but I drove a total of 300 miles last night to watch this sucky team...so I guess I'm as much to blame.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

Yes you are. Shame on you.

Doc said:

user-pic

The good news, I'll not be going to either of the games this weekend.

Doc said:

user-pic

Today's lineup is rather sucky...which means they'll probably win...

From the rat:
Fook
Darlin
Tweet
Lee
Geo
Fonzi
Munchkin
Chef
Orca

plamorte said:

user-pic

wow based on that lineup you'd think Tim Lincecum was pitching or something

Doc said:

user-pic

Well...this team makes just about any non-brewers pitcher look like Tim Lincecum.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

i can identify about 5 of those names.

Teebob2000 said:

user-pic

Yeah, right? It's like Hawk Harrelson posted that. Pods, Black Jack, El Caballo, One Dog, Mags... Just say their fucking names, dickweed! (Hawk, not Doc.)

Doc said:

user-pic

Geez...use your imagination, kids...

Fook = fukudome
Darlin = Castro
Tweet = Byrd
Lee = Lee
Geo = Soto
Fonzi = Soriano
Munchkin = Fontenot
Chef = Baker
Orca = Silva

Teebob2000 said:

user-pic

I don't see Byrd as a "Tweet" in any respect. Maybe "Big" if a nickname is required; i.e. Big Byrd (plus he IS big so it's applicable). Tweet is too close to Tweety and he's in no way anything like Chris Matthews.

And Baker = Chef? C'mon that's too easy, you're not even trying. How about Matzoh? A baker "rises" the occasion but Baker's AVG this season has been as flat and uninspiring as can be (no insult to my Jewish friends intended).

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Remember that Looney Tunes where Tweety turned into a Frankenstein Tweety?

That could be Byrd.

JulieDiCaro said:

Bob is on WGN saying the Cubs' problem is a lack of HRs. I would also argue that it's a lack of singles, doubles, and triples.

gravedigger said:

user-pic

and home runs. Or just runs generally. Also, not giving up runs. The problem with the team is that they suck.

jarowcliffe said:

user-pic

I would argue its a lack of good fundamental baseball...our team avg isnt bad and we among the leaders in HRs. But our avg with RISP is awful. Plus the pigpens ERA is still somewhere around 1000

Doc said:

user-pic

The Cubs are #8 in all of baseball in home runs and #4 in the NL...that puts them almost in the top quarter of teams.

That's a load of shit. Time for Brenly to go manage the Mariners or something.
