Tylermania Keeps on Rolling

If, like me, you missed last night's game, here's what happened:

PHOENIX -- The Cubs mounted a late comeback against Arizona Friday night at Chase Field, but wound up losing 5-3 to the Diamondbacks.

Tyler Colvin had a triple and a double for the Cubs, Kosuke Fukudome homered, and Jeff Baker drove in the tying run in the two-run eighth.

But Mitch Atkins served up a two-run homer to Ryan Roberts in the eighth to give Arizona the lead again.

Ryan Dempster threw four innings, allowing only a two-run homer to Mark Reynolds. The Cubs fell to 17-12-3 going into their final game of the spring on Saturday.

Who among you stands against the tide of Tylermania? You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him!

Speaking of people you can only hope to contain, it looks like Ted is inching ever closer to a real, honest-to-god rehab start:

Piniella announced that Ted Lilly will begin his minor league rehab stint next Friday at Triple-A Iowa. Last week he said Lilly might start out in a warm weather city, but Lilly fought that idea, saying it would be more conducive to pitch in conditions that he'll be facing when he returns in mid-April.

"The only place we have that's really warm weather is Daytona Beach, and it really hasn't been that warm in Florida," Piniella said.

Lilly will fly to Des Moines and then return to the Cubs before his next start on April 14.

If you're ever wondered what a TOOTBLAN is, today is your lucky day! Wrigleyville23, the creator of TOOTBLAN, gives a tutorial complete with visual aids.

We are now just about 48 hours away from Opening Day. Today, Randy Wells leads the Cubs to Chase Field to take on the DBacks in the LAST SPRING TRAINING GAME OF THE PRE-SEASON. And guess what? It's going to be on WGN radio and WGN TV!

Wheeeeeeee!

We'll get ya the lineup as soon as we get it.

I got an email Thursday from my new BFF.
"Let's all once again show the world that Spartans celebrate our unity with class. It's an honor to be a Spartan. Be very loud about it. Be very proud about it.

Go Green,
Tom Izzo"

In other words, don't burn couches this weekend.

Did I step on your headlines, Julie? I'm sorry! I had much wine last night and I'm a little out of it this morning. :(

It's no big deal. Yours are much better than mine were, anyway. I just deleted mine to avoid confusion.

I'm making an executive decision: "Tylermania" must now always be represented as "Tylermania!" WITH the exclamation point.

This could quite possibly be bigger than Beatlemania.

And hence, bigger than Jesus.

I probably shouldn't have said that the day before Easter.

I just hope his knee's in better shape than Hogan's. Last I saw, Hogan couldn't even do The Big Leg Drop.

It occurs to me that I need a Cubs snuggie for the spring.

Michael Brenley is the backup catcher today. Bob says he feels like throwing up.

JulieDiCaro said:

God, Soriano still looks so stiff and tenative to me out there.

With today's Wings loss, the Hawks clinhed their first Central Division Title since 1993. Wooooo!

JulieDiCaro said:

jumped the gun, the hawks CAN clinch if they score 1 point against the Flames tomorrow.

Bobcubs08 said:

ok I'll play. Hopefully TYLERMANIA! will supplant Soriano.

I'm glad Ted Lilly wants to pitch in the weather he will actually play in.IMHO, rehabbing an injury in warm weather does not resemble real game conditions.(unless you are a CA team, in which case they might want to throw in simulated fire, earthquake, and wind) I wanted to cry every time this weekend when they showed the "want to see the Cubs play" commercial! Sure,if the Cubs will pay my plane fare, hotel, and convince my Cub-hating boss to let me come watch...

JulieDiCaro said:

Awwwww. Where do you live?

I live in the fabulous town of Arcadia, CA. My boss is originally from Egypt,so the only sport he tolerates is basketball. To him, baseball is a "feeble" sport, and as a Laker fan, cannot comprehend why someone would root for a team that does not go to the World Series every year.

Darlin Starlin with a triple.

Why are we starting him at AAA again?

Bobcubs08 said:

i thought he was starting at AA

JulieDiCaro said:

whatever. if he's not in Chicago, it doesn't really matter to me.

Michael Brenley behind the plate. Bob is a nervous wreck, can't stop giggling and twitching.

AndCounting said:

user-pic

That was pretty cool. I can't imagine that feeling. Well, the giggling and twitching I can relate to whenever I get measured for pants, but watching your son play while you call the game . . . that would be hard.

Michael Brenley gave some of us a scare today. When the Cubs were batting in the first inning, a flaxen haired kid wearing # 17 sat on the bench swinging his legs because his short legs don't reach the ground. Later in the game, another flaxen haired kid wearing # 71 stood talking to Ryan Dempster, and he was TALLER THAN DEMPSTER. We wondered what kind of supplements Fontenot had taken, and how scary it would be if he got to be that big. Brenley needs a different number next year.

Edelweiss said:

That actually was a Tootblan, but on this blogsite, you have been calling every runner thrown out a tootblan. Some of those runners are sent by Quade or Sinatro, and the Cubs are trying to be more aggressive on the basepaths. There will be more runners thrown out this year, but also more will be reaching third from first on a single, and scoring from second on a single. And please don't call those guys trying to leg out a ground ball Tootblans.
