Free Ozzie! (And The Cubs Live Game Thread)

Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen sits in the dugout against the Boston Red Sox in Chicago

I am so angry about this first story, I don't even know where to start:

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Usually affable, Ozzie Guillen's anger toward White Sox management boiled over Friday after his club's 8-4 loss to the Cubs.

The manager's middle son, Oney, resigned from the club's video department Friday because of the organization questioning his blunt Twitter posts and asking him to stop them.

"Hey kid we are behind you. No matter what," Guillen tweeted before he uncharacteristically walked silently past reporters waiting outside his office.

Guillen, through his Twitter account, later apologized to the media and wrote it wasn't "the right time for me to talk."

Look, Kenny. Let's get one thing straight: We're in the dog days of Spring Training. There isn't a whole lot going on in my world, baseball-wise. Ozzie's non-sensiscal, non-grammatical, Spanglish-laden tweets are one of the few things keeping me entertained these days, so BACK THE F*CK OFF.

It looks like our dreams of turning Randy Wells into a reasonable facsimile of Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn are going to be dashed:

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- After four spring outings, Cubs pitcher Randy Wells has made his final decision.

"I think I'm going to bang the glasses," he said. "I'm kind of tired talking about it."

Wells wasn't all that bad without his new specs Friday against the White Sox's regulars, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings and working out of a bases-loaded, no-outs situation in the fourth inning.

After trying the glasses in bullpen sessions, Wells said they were fogging up.

"(They) weren't making all that much of a difference," he said. "I don't need them to play baseball. It's not like I put them on and all of a sudden I'm Nolan Ryan."

I know were all sick of talking about Milton Bradley, but this is kinda funny:

The Seattle Times reports: Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu went off on Class AAA umpire Jon Merry for ejecting Milton Bradley in the fourth inning -- the second straight spring contest from which he's been tossed.

"To me, it's almost like a witch hunt,'' he said. "I mean, it's almost embarassing to me when egos get involved to the point where they don't even give a guy a chance.''

Merry ejected Bradley for arguing a fourth-inning strikeout call on a full-count pitch that seemed high. Wakamatsu admitted that Bradley did say something to Merry as he walked back to the dugout, but added that the umpire's trigger was too quick.

"Again, I think it's pretty blatant that some guys have it out for him.''

What does this remind me of. . . ? Hmmmmmmm. . . .  Oh, wait, I know! It reminds of me OUR Spring Training LAST YEAR, when WE all complained that the umps were out to get Milty. I can't wait until it turns out that the entire city of Seattle is to blame for his problems.

In case you missed the game yesterday, Carrie Muskat has the recap:

Cubs at the plate: The Cubs had a short trip to make to get from Mesa to Glendale, but they decided to dial long distance upon arriving at Camelback Ranch. Derrek Lee launched his third home run of the spring, a two-run shot in the third, while Alfonso Soriano added a two-run blast in the sixth off reliever Scott Linebrink. Marlon Byrd drove out a solo blast to lead off the fourth, and Xavier Nady chipped in his first home run of the spring, coming off of J.J. Putz in the eighth.

(snip)

Cubs on the mound: Randy Wells allowed two runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings during a solid start. He struck out one and walked one and pitched out of a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the fourth without allowing a run.

Cubs are in split-squad action this today, with half the team traveling to take on the As (mlb audio will carry the away feed) and the other half staying put in Mesa to take on the hapless Royals (this will be on WGN radio). You can check out the mlb.com media center here.

We'll just use this for the game thread today, and I'll post the lineup as soon as someone tweets it.

Happy Saturday!

The whole Guillen thing is stupid-the organization is overreacting, and so did Oney by resigning over something so petty. I love Ozzie's tweets-if anything, the Sox should recognize they are bringing more attention to their team, which could be profitable.

Cousin Milty is being a bad boy, but is it Chicago's fault this time? As for him being targeted, you know, if you don't do anything to break the rules to start with, you don't get tossed. Doh!

seriously, they should be selling shirts with Ozzie's best tweets on them. *I* would by that.

That HAS to be the first time anyone has voluntarily resigned from a teams Video department. I wonder if he wanted to conduct a press conference as well. Seems like a bit of "grandstanding" on Ozzie's son's part, but Im with you guys...its spring training...let him tweet whatever he wants..

AndCounting got stuck in traffic apparently and missed 98% of the draft

Not exactly traffic. My wife needed help with an errand. It wound up being several. Long ones. I figured leaving her at a store would be more disastrous than autopick, so . . . time to make some creative trades.

Carrie Muskat has a Ted Lilly update:

"Ted Lilly, coming back from arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, was to throw a side on Saturday and then his second live BP session on Monday. If all goes well, he could pitch in a simulated game later in the week."

ON the plus side, there were no reports of towel drills.

What time does the game start today? I'm too lazy to look it up.

3:05 CDT, 4:05 EDT. Don't know about Arizona time as to whether they're on DST or not.

I believe the game (the one against the A's) is on WGN radio, but not 100% sure.

AndCounting said:

No, it's the KC game, you moran.

secdelahc said:

Doesn't help me either way. I'm too far away for WGN radio.

secdelahc said:

Except that now I'm the moran, because both games are on mlbaudio. Way to go, me!
