The time? 2:00 pm CT

The link? This one

The place? In front of your tv. With your computer.

The call-in number for questions/comments?               347-884-8570

The event? Adam, Tim and Julie do their best to make you laugh during the first hour of the Cubs game. It will either be really, really funny, or something we will never speak of again.

But before we get to the FIRST TELEVISED GAME OF THE SEASON, we have to get to the headlines.

Did you miss the game yesterday? Oh right, we all did. Good thing the AP is here to tell us all about it:

MESA, Ariz. -- Justin Upton's sixth-inning grand slam, his first hit since signing a $51.25 million, six-year contract, wasn't enough for the Arizona Diamondbacks in an 8-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday.

Brad Snyder hit a two-run, ninth-inning double off Esmerling Vasquez to rally Chicago in a game that began with the Cubs' Carlos Zambrano and Diamondbacks' Dan Haren each pitching two hitless innings.

Tyler Colvin had a two-run single and a double, giving the Cubs' No. 1 2006 amateur pick three doubles, a homer, a single and three RBIs in six at-bats. Fellow first-rounders Brett Jackson (2009) and Josh Vitters (2007) and top prospect Starlin Castro also had hits in Chicago's four-run fifth.

Ah, but despite the apparent rise of Darlin' Starlin Castro as the new SS of choice and Tyler Colvin as a power hitter, it wasn't all good news coming out of Mesa yesterday:

Reports out of Arizona say that right-handed reliever Angel Guzman will undergo an MRI today on his ailing right shoulder. Guzman reportedly continues to feel discomfort in the shoulder. In January, Guzman had his knee scoped, and while throwing off flat ground as he rehabbed the knee, he felt something in the shoulder. Reports also say righty Jeff Gray continues to be slowed by a groin strain.

If the results are bad, Guzman, could miss significant time. The Cubs already are dangerously thin from the right side of their bullpen. Carlos Marmol is the closer, with John Grabow setting up from the left side. Jeff Samardzija and Carlos Silva are two righties battling for rotation spots. Samardzija, whose mechanics appear much improved, conceivably could move to the pen, where he had some success in 2008.

A. I have no idea if losing Guzman is good or bad, as he's pitched approximately .000000987 innings in his time with the Cubs B. Who is Jeff Gray?

But no matter, because we have another update for the Knee-O-Meter!!!

Left fielder Alfonso Soriano, who makes his spring-game debut today against the White Sox, has passed every test of the spring with his surgically repaired left knee and looks close to full strength.

''I felt great [Thursday]. And it feels great right now,'' Ramirez said Friday. ''I'm back to normal, I think. I can't say that [for sure] right now, but I think I'm back to normal.''

Manager Lou Piniella has said he expects a 30-homer, 80-plus-RBI season out of a healthy Soriano from the No. 6 spot in the lineup.

Have another cocktail, Lou.

And little Sammy Fuld is getting a bit uppity now that he has not one, but TWO RBIs with the big club:

''I'd like to think I can offer more than just defense,'' said Fuld, who hit .299 with a .409 on-base percentage and .821 OPS in 65 games with the Cubs last year. ''I do take a lot of pride in my offense, and that's obviously a huge part of the game.''

Piniella has alluded to building a ''more defensive-minded'' or ''more offensive-minded'' bench this spring, with Fuld and infielder Andres Blanco the obvious defensive guys he's referring to.

''It's tough -- maybe as the little guy, you have to do a little extra to stand out a little bit,'' said Fuld, who made several highlight-reel catches last season. ''At the same time, you can't try to do too much. ... I hope that everyone can view me as more than just a defensive replacement and know I can contribute offensively.''

I'm sure you would like to think you can offer more than just defense, Little Sammy. I would like to think I can offer more than a little-known blog that spend 90% of its time laughing at jokes involving bodily functions. Yet here we are.

This afternoon's game against the White Sox kicks off at 2:00 pm on WGN. Both Carlos Silva (tee hee) and Alfonso Soriano will make their Spring Training debuts today. Hope to "see" a lot of you then!

Today's lineup:

Theriot (SS)

Fukudome (RF)

Lee (1B)

Ramirez (3B)

Byrd (CF)

Soriano (LF)

Hoffpauir (DH)

Soto (C)

Scales (2B)

The return of Bobby Scales!

Is it really 90% bodily functions? We seem to talk about drinking a lot, too.

Crap. Crap. Crap.

Now I almost feel bad about the joke I made in reference to him not being ready to start his career.

Don't almost feel bad... injury or not, you're joke was 100% accurate.

Horrible news, he really was starting to come around last year.

What is Fonzie saying in the little bubble on the Knee-O-Meter?... it's a bit too small to read on my monitor.

MillsChC said:

Someone needs to turn Julie's mic down a notch, the distortion's making my speakers rattle... The other guys' mics are fine.

JulieDiCaro said:

that's just how loud my voice is. . . jerk.

;P

MillsChC said:

I guess I got used to it about halfway through... at first though, I could hardly understand what you were saying compared to the other guys.

JulieDiCaro said:

Hmmmm. . . I'll look into it. Thanks for the heads up.

Enjoying the podcast Julie. Has anyone explained why the broadcast looks like it is shot on a webcam?

Every Spring, three great things happen: The swallows return to Capistrano, the Cubs start playing baseball, and Rev Mike comes back to LOHO!

Great to be back. It was a long winter waiting for baseball. Unfortunately we no longer have E6 to prompt me to post my frustration- but I think Carlos Silva may just fill that spot vacated by Ronnie, assuming he makes the team.

He should move to San Diego in the off season, I'd be happy to go for a jog with him. It doesn't take much to stay in shape during the off season when the weather is nice.

JulieDiCaro said:

Let's pass that little bit of news onto Jim Hendry.

Silva is getting torched.

CUT HIM!

The video looks washed out....is that just on Cox in Arizona?

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

It's washed out for me, too.I can't see the ball once it gets past Silva.

MillsChC said:

user-pic

It must not be profitable to haul all the HD equipment out to HoHoKam park for a handful of games.

teddfrog said:

It is washed out on HD and SD here on WGN through the Cox communications cable system.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

HA--Silva is terrible.

AndCounting said:

user-pic

Thanks for the chance to do that, Julie. Whew . . . would have been nice to cheer for something, but Silva's big fat ugly performance made things easier.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Silva gave us more material, though.

MillsChC said:

user-pic

That was entertaining... you guys should make that a regular Sat. or Sun. thing.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I bet we'd get paid more NOT to make it a regular thing. :P

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Hey--it's Cashner! Thanks, Lou!

AndCounting said:

user-pic

Cashner looks like a beast. I don't know if the camera is distorted at all, but that's big boy.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

His head looks like Spencer Pratt. That makes it hard to like him.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

We get to see Cashner AND Castro. Sweet.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

Okay, not so excited to see Cashner today.

MillsChC said:

Len & Bob finally got off the AOL email address... welcome to the 2000s guys.

Woo! I just got home, so I'm listening to the podcast now. Maybe I should wait and see if I can watch the game when it's done.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

GACK. Grabow is in.

JulieDiCaro said:

user-pic

I STILL haven't seen beefy Tyler Colvin!

JulieDiCaro said:

So what have we learned today? We've learned that Carlos Silva is even worse than we thought.
