Okay, let's see what's next . . . Headlines? Uhhhhhhhh. . . This is always death.
Okay, here we go:
For all of you geeks arguing about whether or not the fancy new plywood boards at Wrigley will interfere with the park's landmark status, they won't:
"
If the Cubs decide to place advertising signage on the large green boards erected in the Wrigley Field bleachers, as expected, it's unlikely to be subjected to landmark review.
"We looked at the landmark ordinance and don't think it would be covered," said Jim Peters, president of Landmark Illinois, the Chicago-based historic preservation advocacy group. "The chain-link fence is listed as a 'non-contributing element' (to Wrigley's landmark status.)"
So there you go, nerds. Jim Hendry has looked into it and determined that the issue is moot.
In other news, we were remiss yesterday in not soliciting your suggestions as to what to place on said boards. If you have a good idea, please share.
This morning in trade rumors, we have seen the enemy, and it is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim off Rte. 95 Near the Applebee's Exit:
The Angels have gotten back into the Roy Halladay sweepstakes, according to Mike DiGiovanna of The LA Times. We know the Halos were hard after the former Cy Young Award winner at the trade deadline, but Giovanna says the talks broke down when the Halos refused to include Erick Aybar in the deal. They eventually moved on and acquired Scott Kazmir.

you know, I would get huffy about being called a nerd, but a) you're right, especially on this particular subject, and b) from this group its almost a compliment
Doc Blume said:
Actually, being called a nerd is about the nicest thing I've been called in a long time.
Thanks Julie.

I'm a giver.
The "nerd" comment came from someone who frequently makes "Star Wars" refernces. Though I think that might actually make me a geek.

One good thing about gravedigger's new job is that he's not whining for the headlines at 6:30 am.
Doc Blume said:
Can I take over that job?
cubbiejulie said:
No.

Cub Fans Tweetup/Mid-Winter LOHO get-together:
Friday, January 14, 2010 7:00-11:00 (ish?) pm. Kitty O'Shea's (in the Chicago Hilton and Towers) 720 S. Michigan, Chicago, IL.
This way, we can get drunk and it'll be very convenient to go lynch management.
Doc Blume said:
hmm...maybe I should start being social and stuff and go to that.
cubbiejulie said:
you're. . .sorta social. demented and sad, but social.
(please identify movie quote)
Doc Blume said:
I'm not sure about this, but I remember something like that in the Breakfast Club.

I refuse to do Black Friday. I just. . . no.
I'm not.

I've done it once before, and I've vowed to never go again. It's not worth it.
flyball said:
I barely do Thanksgiving, no way I'm going to get up the next day and deal with people
this is the best weekend, as long as you stay away from the stores everything is peaceful
Doc Blume said:
Doing black friday requires me to get out of bed...
I don't think so. I'm just too lazy.
secdelahc said:
Besides, if I stay home, I can watch football!

there's just nothing i want to buy THAT badly that i feel the need to get up when it's still dark outside and wade through a see of humanity at Best Buy for.
but maybe that's just me.

I bought my droid...so I'm pretty much set for the next 50 years or so.

the Angels are usually so benign, i would really be bummed if I had to start actively disliking them
stay away from my free agents Angels!
cubbiejulie said:
It just takes so much effort to hate a team. I mean, other than the Cards or White Sox, which is visceral. I just don't have the energy to hate anyone else.
Doc Blume said:
The angels are good for jacking up the price of any player.
Jerks.
cubbiejulie said:
Flyball, you don't need a Cubs Con pass to get into Kitty O'Shea's on that Friday night, do you?
flyball said:
nope, but I will say there is usually an hour or so in there where the place fills up and there can be a line, but people come and go pretty frequently so usually it takes no time at all to get through it
Doc Blume said:
They are basically just trying to keep you out.
flyball said:
me? its nothing personal, they are just afraid one day I'll be bringing the rest of you along
flyball said:
that should have ended with; and our awesomeness will be too much for the bar to handle

I just got to the coffeshop, got all set up. Ready to work. Documents spread out, tea hot and yummy, seat right by the outlet and right by the window. Feeling good. Stretch a little. Okay, ready, set, work!
I forgot my power cord.
:(

That's providence. Work as long as your battery does, then people watch. Great day.
