Worried about Sam Fuld being out for a week? Terrified about our lack of scrappy OFs to fill his shoes?
Fear not, Cubs fans. Help is on the way!
The Cubs called up So Taguchi from Triple-A Iowa, and he will be in uniform for Wednesday's game against the Brewers. Taguchi batted .248 for Iowa with four homers and 24 RBIs. The Cubs felt they needed an extra outfielder after Sam Fuld strained his right thumb. Fuld will be sidelined at least a week.Taguchi, 40, played for the Phillies last season, appearing in 88 games and batting .220.
So, as you can see, we have nothing to worry about. What more could we ask for than a guy who hit .248 at AAA?

"Trying to Catch the Wind" is one of my favorite songs of all time. I wish they'd stop using it in stupid insurance commercials.
Umbra said:
I would have thought your favorite song by Donovan was the one he wrote just for you, Season of the Witch.
But yeah, Donovan is pretty awesome. Hurdy Gurdy Man. Mellow Yellow. Barabajagal. They use There Is A Mountain in another commercial, too. Car commercial?
cubbiejulie said:
Ah, it's been a ling time since we've had the "Julie is a Witch" jokes.
jtbwriter said:
Rather "Julie is a witch" then being embarrassed by Bobby Sherman's "Julie, Julie Julie do you love me?"
Sung by a pimply faced creep in front of my friends and one really cute guy at a bus stop. Sigh.
Season of the Witch-lol! I've got three good lines back for that!
cubbiejulie said:
This all started because a homeless woman downtown used to whisper "a witch, a witch! a scarlet-headed witch!" when I walked by her. Then one day, walking to my building, she was calling me a witch, as usual, when a bird flew into my building and fell down dead in front of us. At least, I'm pretty sure it hit the building. At any rate, that pretty much cemented me as a witch in her mind.

Plus there was that time it rained and you didn't have an umbrella and turned into a puddle of goo.

way to bring that up in front of everyone.

Amazing how Gen-Z is the target for the last intelligent lyrics of Gen-1, lol! No..that's not fair, I know

Cards lost today, we're only 5.5 out of the division. How awesome would a sweep in St. Lou be?
cubbiejulie said:
Nope--we're 8.5 out of the division. I was wrong. Looking at the WC. :(
gravedigger said:
Well it does not matter either way, this team will not be in the playoffs.
phantastikon said:
Since we last spoke [what. 5 minutes?] cubs are 5.5 out in the WC..another commercial success for the new owners? fk me...

So Taguchi played for last season's World Series champs, just sayin'.

How does Wipeout continue to be so entertaining week after week?
cubbiejulie said:
It's the giant balls. They might be the funniest things ever on TV.
carlheartscubs said:
I never thought the big balls could get better, then they introduced the motivator.
cubbiejulie said:
I don't know what that is.
carlheartscubs said:
It's a big swinging arm that knocks the people off the platform if they wait too long to jump on the big balls.
cubbiejulie said:
Oh, that's funny. I think the real secret is to either hop like a frog or to just run as fast as you can.
carlheartscubs said:
Theriot with a leadoff single and stolen base! World Series here we come!

Harden's not improving... 39 pitches through two innings.

His stuff today is the worst it's been since he joined the team. He only averaged 89 on his fastball

I demand a win.
What's going on with Rich?
carlheartscubs said:
6 hits, 3 walks. It's bad enough that he's being pinch-hit for by Aaron Miles in the 3rd.
cubbiejulie said:
YIKES.
I'm here now. They can start winning.
carlheartscubs said:
Glee is on! Yippee!
cubbiejulie said:
Too bad. You're staying here with me.

I can doubletask! But not multitask

Aaron Miles started a mini-rally? I think that was his first hit since May.

Two huge deaths to pancreatic cancer in Indianapolis today: Mel Simon, philanthropist and owner of the Pacers and Myles Brand, former IU Pres and NCAA Pres.
berselius said:
Isn't that was got Swayze too?
carlheartscubs said:
Yeppers
berselius said:
IIRC Brand was the one who fired Bob Knight. aren't a bunch of you IU grads? What did you think of Knight?
cubbiejulie said:
i adored bobby.
on the other hand, i didn't recognize the guy i saw choking neil reid. though to be fair, a lot of people were in line to choke neil reid. bobby just got there first.
carlheartscubs said:
Yes, he was in charge and was responsible for firing Knight. I think Knight did amazing things for IU, but stayed a little too long. I wish things could've ended more smoothly, but oh well. It's just too bad it took them so long to get Tom Crean.
cubbiejulie said:
kelvin sampson is a boil on the butt of humanity. i will never forgive him for what he did to our program. or the trustees for hiring him in the first place.
carlheartscubs said:
I agree on Sampson. And I blame mostly Adam Herbert, but the trustees did give him the green light.
berselius said:
I remember liking Mike Davis when he was the coach
carlheartscubs said:
I think he's a good guy, and probably will have a good amount of success... he just wasn't right for IU. I think there is still too much racism in Indiana (we need more white guys!) and he's not all that great with the media, and needs to be out of the spotlight.
berselius said:
At least it's not Kentucky. Tubby Smith was dealing with a river of hate during his whole tenure there, and didn't deserve it at all. I'm glad the Big 10 snapped him up, even if it was those lame varmints in Minnesota
cubbiejulie said:
Tubby Smith is a great coach. My only problem with MN hiring him is that I have to hear about it from Max all the time.
cubbiejulie said:
also, he wasn't that great of a coach. i liked mike, too, but he had problems recruiting and the team never played all that well under him.
berselius said:
Holy balls, I didn't realize how awful IU basketball was last year.
carlheartscubs said:
Yeah... what was it, one win in the Big 10?
berselius said:
UW was really strange to watch last year. Just like previous years they play their incredibly boring defensive ball-control game, but they don't really have any stars at all. It's all the system.
cubbiejulie said:
really? myles brand?
i was never a big fan of his, but still.
berselius said:
The local radio hosts here were trashing him big-time, right after announcing his death. I thought it was pretty classless
cubbiejulie said:
that's pretty bad.
he did do a lot of weird things at IU, like promising that if you didn't graduate in 4 years, IU would pay for your 5th year.
Um . . what? Why on EARTH would you do that?
berselius said:
LOL. Apparently he has never met an undergraduate student
cubbiejulie said:
the only people i knew who took 5 years to graduate were people who screwed around OR changed their majors late in the game. not that that's always the case, but it's not like college isn't doable in 4 years.
berselius said:
I refer to most of the 'super-seniors' I meet here as majoring in college
cubbiejulie said:
i've blocked it all out.
cubbiejulie said:
Oh, wtf geo? you don't play for the harlem globetrotters.
cubbiejulie said:
I had no idea the he was hitting this poorly w/RISP:
"Milton Bradley, batting .207 with RISP, was lifted for Hoffpauir in a double switch. He was 0-for-2, stranding two in cubs 3rd"

I think Richard Dreyfuss just insulted us . . .
carlheartscubs said:

has he done anything since Mr. Holland's Opus?
btw, i love that movie.
carlheartscubs said:
I was thinking exactly the same thing. But I just like that movie.

That's So Taguchi!

Wow---So Taguchi is in the game. We just conceded the season.

He is weird. And funny.
cubbiejulie said:
Len has no idea what to say. He's the most politically incorrect guest since Erik Estrada.
cubbiejulie said:
No one is more relieved that segment is over than Len.
Maim said:
If Len would just let LOHO sing it, he wouldn't have to put up with such strange banter.
I mean, he would, but it would be better.
cubbiejulie said:
the real problem is the things that would come out of carl and mark's mouth. and umbra correcting Len, and millertime arguing with Bob, and Matt hitting on Carrie Muskat, and me asking everyone if they know Eric Karros' email. . . I think you can see where this is going.
Maim said:
Len chooses all this over another interview with Richard Dreyfuss, I bet.
canopygrl said:
Wow that is a hard thing to top! Anywho, what is the score? I'm too lay to log or click into another page.

9-5 Brewers, but we had a real chance that last inning. Theriot blew it by GIDP.

I felt certain that Taguchi would hit a home run there.
