Chicago Cubs Headlines and Game Post -- 3:05pm CDT (on WGN) 27 Sept 09

Thanks to their third win in a row, a 6-2 victory over the Giants, the Cubs have lived to see another day.  Another fun fact?  The Giants have never been swept in four games at home by the Cubs since relocating to San Francisco.  Maybe this will keep your attention.

Of course, some attribute the Cubs' winning streak to the absence of Milton Bradley (who, if ESPN is to be believed, could be headed to the Rays).  It's true that they have won six of seven since he's been gone.  I just hesitate to draw too many conclusions.

Randy Wells (11-9, 3.00) is going up against the equally young Matt Cain (13-7, 2.99), who is enduring a three-game slump.

Thus, those who don't give a crap about the Bears (I will watch them, but only because I'll be at a friend's party, and the Vikings are playing right now) can tune into WGN at 3:05pm CDT to see if the Cubs can continue to be technically still in the midst of the wildcard hunt.  Who knows - maybe the Cubs will surprise everyone and.....whatever.  Just know that the game is on, and that the Cubs can mess with the Giants' wildcard chances.

On a final note, does the Cubs' recent play seem a little too late to make much of a difference?  Leave it to Jake Fox (a man who drove in two runs yesterday) to put a silver lining on that for you.

We're catching fire late, but wished it would have happened sooner," said Fox. "At the same time it's good to see it now because it's something to build on in the offseason."

Dunston (While wearing a SF cap): "Yeah, I'm a Cub, I don't care what anyone says" snip "I'm proud to be a member of the Cubs, they say the Cubs are losers, but I don't think so, I appreciate playing for the Cubs"

it goes on, but its mostly really cute, and how great theteam and fans are, thanks Shawon

I'm sure that Shawon still thinks of himself as a Cub. He was drafted by the organization and spent most of his career here. I didn't hear the whole conversation, but on Lead-Off Man, Brenley was talking to Mike Krukow about what it meant to be a Cub. And even though it's been nearly 30 years, Krukow still had fond memories of his time in a Cubs uniform.

Bob spoke about Robert Fick like his name would be new to Cubs fans.... didn't Fick have some kinda dustup with a certain beloved Cub on this site, a few years back.

I don't know about a dustup LOHO, but he did interfere with a throw to Eric Karros during the 2003 playoffs. Eric could have been injured on the play and Fick got fined for the play.
