Why hello. I am writing you from my couch this Monday night because if I had my druthers, it is where I would spend the next two weeks of my life. In fact, I had an absolutely delightful Valentine's Day for the sheer fact that I drank lots of Glogg, hung out with beautiful, funny single friends, and had a 360 degree view of the pairs figure skating short program via 6 TVs at Mary's Rec Room.
(Also, I took some cold medicine which is giving me cloud brain, so don't judge if this seems dumber or less legible than normal)
I don't know what it is about figure skating, particularly pairs and ice dancing, but every story is like a Behind the Music: Fleetwood Mac level of nail biting betrayal, love, and loss. In fact, I love figure skating so much that two nights in a row I have forgone watching 'Keeping up with the Kardashians' so as to painstakingly follow the Chinese, Russians, and Germans on their journey to the medal stand.
Intervention: figure skating
As such, if I am to leave my apartment to go anywhere without Olympics-broadcasting TVs, it had better damn well be worth it. So far, plans this week are being kept to a minimum. Some professional related folly on Thursday, Kid Sister at Spin on Saturday, and the second ever women's Curve event on Sunday.
Perhaps you are not familiar with the Curve event. I believe the plan is to hold it quarterly, and it's a classy type event (dig out your dress-up clothes now) for the lady folk. It takes place Sunday from 12 to 3 at Calo's in Andersonville. You can get tickets here, and you can view the Facebook event here. Here is why I like Facebook events-- whilst deciding whether or not to attend, you scan to see who is attending, make sure none of your nemeses/exes will be there, and assess the general hotness and anonymity of the attendee pool. Brilliant. Granted, lots of people don't respond either way, but I've found it generally to serve as a good barometer.
So far, looks to be a good bunch. Go RSVP on the FB page and buy your ticket so you can add to the hotness. Yes, you! I also met some hot women this weekend who said they were going. Perhaps that will inspire you. Real talk though, it's a great forum for meeting people. It's midday, so no one will be totally toe up, and your ticket does include 3 drink tickets (in addition to food and Jess Yoakum) which should suffice to take the edge off. I in no way condone drinking as a coping mechanism for social anxiety, but hey...it sure does help!
Come have fun with us! I of course will be checking my phone regularly to keep myself updated on the Olympic medal count, but I think it'll be a good break for what will soon be my Olympic-watching induced bedsores. And now if you'll excuse me, I have more Olympics to watch.
