Deb and the Powwows

You heard it here first.  Deb Mell has joined the band as its new headliner!  Not really.  This is a double header post to forewarn you of a double header night tomorrow.  Go to bed now so you can stay up late!

The night kicks off at 6pm for Deb Mell's fundraiser.  Deb, incumbent candidate for State Representative of the 40th Ward, is getting some competition in the primaries.  Come out and help keep her in office fighting for our rights!  Also, stay tuned for a longer piece I'm doing on Deb tomorrow.

The fundraiser is from 6 to 8pm tomorrow (Thursday, 1/14) at Mary's Attic in Andersonville.  Hopefully if the swingers are there again, we can convince them to vote for Deb.  The contribution amount is $50, which includes two drink tickets.  You can pay at the door or online at www.debmell.org.  To RSVP, e-mail debmellinfo@gmail.com or call 773-267-7074.

Then, migrate south with many of the attendees to a live show by the Powwows at Martyr's (3855 N. Lincoln).  Friend to brokedown lesbians and homeless animals, enightened spirit and lead singer, Lauretta Tagli, promises to make the Lakeview journey worth leaving the warm comorts of your home.

Preview some of the Powwows' music on the site.  What you won't get on the site, however, is a taste for Tagli's witty banter and excellent stage presence.  $7 for the cover is quite a bargain, since you get both live music and stand-up comedy.  The show starts at 10pm, so be sure to get there early.

Lastly, mark your calendars for the second Chicago Curve event for the ladies.  This one will be held February 21st from 12pm to 3pm at Calo's in Andersonville.  The first event at Broadway Cellars sold out and was a big hit in the community.  This midday mingling opportunity also gives you an excuse to break out your dress-up clothes-- you know, that stupid outfit you had to buy for some event a couple years ago and have never worn since.
