Chicago Day on MTV: Tune In and Support Our Artists
There's no track-off today, but I still need Chicago to stand up for its local talent.
It's about to be our day on MTV Jams on Nov. 27, according to my one of my honorary blog buddies, Andrew Barber, from fakeshoredrive.com.
Barber is working with the channel, formerly known mainly for its music, to dedicate a day of nothing but Chicago artists. More on this exciting news after the jump....
Common sense tells you to tune in and see this guy and other local rappers -- established and emerging-- on Nov. 27 on MTV Jams.
The video playlist will include the usual suspects, luminaries Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Common, R. Kelly, Twista and Jennifer Hudson.
"But the most exciting addition, is how we've been able to include lesser known and rising Chicago stars including: GLC, Really Doe, Naledge, LEP, Skooda Chose, Mick Luter and others," Barber wrote in an e-mail to me.
It is also important, perhaps more important, to note, that MTV Jams also will be airing snippets from Sway and David Banner's visit to Chicago a few months ago. The Mississippi rapper-- along with our own Rhymefest, Twista and others -- are among the MCs were working with the Something's Wrong initiative, an effort to curb youth violence in Chicago.
Talk about your must-see TV. Tune in all day and check out your Chicago artists and initiatives to help our youth. More details here.
While we wait for this exciting event, tell me who you'd like to see featured. I love this video from Mic Terror (below) and would like it to appear on the show.
Some old-school Common, a la "Take it Easy," would be great too, and slide in some of that Psychodrama if you can. Kid Sister "Pro Nails" is a must. That song makes me bounce.
What's on your local list?

An MTV station, playing music? What madness is this?

It is great madness. I am too excited about this. Go, Chicago! We definitely have the talent. What artist do you want to see on the channel, Ryan?

I know too little about Chicago hip hop to knowledgably request an artist. But I'll definitely be watching on the 27th so I can know my local artists better.

Very good, Ryan, and thanks for being a track-off voter. Your perspective is always appreciated.

Will set my DVR for this, cause if I don't like a certain song, I will fast forward!

Hey was up Kyra first of all I would like to thank you for mentioning Ang 13 in the article titled All My Single Ladies, women in Hip-Hop never get there just do , but wanted to remind you that Kosha another female rapper here making real hot music & making a name for herself. I would love to see cats like Kaos, Young Godd, Lucky Threez, Swift, MC Billa Camp & Hip Hop band Treologic, Ang 13, Amina, Melly Geez, Kosha, Nuff Said, Cosmo. The list goes on & on but what I'm trying to say is we have so much talent that we really need a hip-hop show here in the Chi & the whole midwest period. DeCago Inc represnting for the MidWest Coast baby, Peace & One Love.
