Community Service: The Weekly Give Back (10/26 Edition)

user-pic

Before I begin, I want to thank you to everyone who has called, written and commented on the Kyles Files offering their services to the community in practical ways.  It is obvious that the help is needed and just as obvious that there are many good people who want to pitch in. We're not going to wait around for celebs to save the day. It's uplifting to see so many people invested in change.

I will continue to post information about ways we all can help on a continual basis (volunteering for organizations, mentoring students, etc.) as well as talk about events that benefit worthy causes.

Today's list is of the latter variety, so please synchronize your Outlook calendars and show your support for the following festivities (including the one illustrated below) this week.  If you can "Tweet" this with the handy button at the top of this post or promote it on your Facebook page, that too would be appreciated.

TREATS, NO TRICKS

One of my Facebook fam, TJ Crawford, has engineered an admirable plan to offer children in South Shore a fun and safe experience this Halloween.  He is currently seeking volunteers for the first annual "Don't Be Scurrred Safe Passage Harvest Weekend"  on Saturday.  If you can, please help him out.  He needs 100 helpers to pass out candy to kids and look out for them during the event, and so far on Facebook, I see he's attracted about half that amount.  Here's the info and how you can contribute:

Event: "Don't Be Scurred Safe Passage Harvest Weekend"

Date/Time: Oct. 31

12 p.m - 12:30  p.m.Volunteer Gathering (Hot Chocolate, Donuts, Etc.)
12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 10-Minute Volunteer Trainings Done In Intervals

2:00 p.m - 5 p.m. Safe Passage Harvest Celebration Begins @ 1809 E. 71st

Contact: Call the BUFI office at (773) 324-0494

Alright, that's what I've got for this week. Got anything to add?  Please keep me in the loop on other events and initiatives at kkyles@tribune.com or even post them here on this blog so everyone can see them.  I really appreciate the continued support of this community-focused content and will keep it going in the hopes it can help in some minute way.
