Congrats to Timbuck2, VH1's Top Hip-Hop Deejay
Congratulations to Timbuck2 aka the Heavy Hitter for winning VH1 Hip Hop Honors' top hip hop deejay in the country contest.
If you picked up today's RedEye, you'll see we toasted WGCI's "Go Ill Radio" host in the RedHot section. His win is huge for our city, and also for the local artists whom he features on his show.
More on this and some words from the winner after the jump...
We supported his bid for top hip-hop deejaydom here in the Kyles Files during the contest. So of course I had to follow up when I found out he crushed the competition on Tuesday. I caught up with Timbuck2 during an
off-air break to ask him how he reacted to his win.
As today's RedHot
reveals he was eating dinner with his mom when VH1 e-mailed him the
good news. His initial reaction was two words, according to Timbuck:
'Um. Happy.'
But there's even more good news. Timbuck2 is throwing a bash to
celebrate. The details are still in the works, per our brief phone
chat, but check his Web site for updates. If
I get the skinny first, I'll share them here. Congrats to this
resident turntablist and kudos to all locals who supported him.

I didn't even know about it until now, but I like him. I've watched the VH1 Hip Honors three times. The best part for me was seeing Eminem and The Roots give credit to L.L. Cool J, who I think is underrated these days. I miss Nate Dogg. Trey Songz didn't do him justice; he wasn't cool enough to play that role, but he tried though.

You know, Montie, I had the special on DVR and was very disappointed. Trey Songz is a cutie, but he was absolutely aaaawwwwfffulll at being Nate Dogg. I do not know what the hell was up with those boring interviews. I was tempted to FF through the whole thing and I've never felt that way before. Maybe they shouldn't fete an entire label in the future.
