Newmovies

Grab your popcorn, movie lovers. Good news from Apple.

New movie releases from major film studios and premier independent studios are available for purchase on the iTunes Store on the same day as their DVD release and this includes new releases and catalog titles from 20th Century Fox, Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal Studios, Sony, Lionsgate, Image Entertainment and First Look Studios.

Now this doesn't specifically talk about rentals -- we'll get to the bottom of that soon.

New releases available for purchase on the iTunes Store this week, concurrent with their DVD release, include "American Gangster" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." Other popular titles now available for purchase include "Juno," "Cloverfield," "I Am Legend," "There Will Be Blood," "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."

So now there's really no reason to go out and buy the DVD, unless you are a collector and love the extras, of course ... I just like knowing that big films will be in iTunes in a timely manner.

Feel free to discuss in the comments, of course.

Thanks for calling.

I Am Legend iPhone friendly

LegendThe fine folks at iphonematters.com have found something cool.

Will Smith's "I Am Legend" is iPhone friendly. Go to iamlegend.com on your desktop, laptop or iPhone and the site automatically sizes itself in the proper format.

The movie looks really good. For those of your unfamiliar with the plot, it can best be summed up this way: The last man on Earth is not alone.

Check it out ... the iPhone version has wallpapers and other extras.

He wasn't very Mac like

Sunday, December 16, 2007 -- 10:44 a.m. -- on my couch

MacguyI finally saw "Live Free or Die Hard" last night ... it was one of those movies that I wanted to see but just didn't get around to with all the wedding planning over the summer.

Few things to point out.

First, I'm a fan of the Die Hard movies. Number 2 -- the one at the airport -- was and still is my favorite. The first one comes after that and this one (better than I thought it would be) is third.

The third one, "Die Hard with a Vengeance," pretty much sucked.

Anyhow, this Die Hard is the one with Justin Long, the Mac from the commercials. Well, he wasn't very Mac like. He did all kinds of hacking and stuff that first almost destroyed the country and then ultimately saved it but none of it was done on a Mac.

Of course, when you are used to seeing Justin Long as the Mac, that's really what he looks like no matter what situation he's in. He gets shot by a crazy government worker gone bad? That's really "holy crap, the Mac guy just got shot!"

Before Justin Long was Mac guy, he was Warren P. Cheswick in the wonderful show "Ed." Took me a while to see him as anything but Warren. Now he's Mac guy and after watching this Die Hard, I can tell you that he's still Mac, although like I said, I would like to have seen more Mac love in the movie.

Of course, the 4th Die Hard is a Fox movie and there's all kinds of negotiation nightmares about downloading movies with Apple going on. On some of those Die Hard DVDs, you can actually copy a version of the movie to watch on a portable device -- iPod and iPhone not included.

All I'm saying is that if the Mac was brought into the movie more, the terrorists probably could have been stopped in 20 minutes as opposed to 2 hours with a PC. Everything's easier on a Mac, right? Of course, a 20 minute movie is no way to spend a snowy night in Chicago.

Thanks for calling.
