The next installment of the Seinfeld-Gates chronicles is out and let me tell you, it's even more bizarre than the last one. It's slightly funny, I suppose, as the last one was ... but it is 4 MINUTES AND 31 SECONDS LONG!!
And once again, it isn't until the very end where there's a tie between Jerry, Bill and Microsoft. So if you are still awake after the 4 minutes and 31 seconds, you get the same kind of ending as you got in the first one.
Sorry. Didn't mean to give it away.
But as I was watching it here, my colleagues were doing the same .. and they pointed out something very, very interesting that I must agree with: No, the commercials make no sense. But neither did Seinfeld back in the day and it was one of the most popular shows of the modern era.
So let's dissect this ... Jerry Seinfeld gets $10 million to do commercials that really don't make much sense, but share plenty of similarities with his show in terms of them being about nothing.
$10 million to create a commercial that's about nothing.
Where do I sign up?
As far as the commercial making one person buy a Microsoft product or switch to Microsoft, it's not happening. I don't think the commercials are having that affect ... but after seeing them, one must wonder ... is that or was that the purpose all along? I don't think so. I think Jerry and Bill can both see that the I'm a Mac, I'm a PC commercials do what they set out to do well and trying to compete isn't going to work. So this is their way of counteracting it.
The first commercial left me scratching my head. The second commercial leaves me scratching my head but getting it a little more ... the idea isn't to force anyone to switch. It's to get folks to talk about the Jerry Seinfeld Bill Gates Microsoft commercials. Which this definitely does. Did you see the new Seinfeld Microsoft commercial? Oh, is that out yet? Yeah. I don't get it, but it's weird for Microsoft -- it's that chatter .. that buzz that I think the creators are going for.
It remains to be seen if it's going to work to their advantage, but so far ... it's a talker.
Watch and let me know what you think? Like it more? Less than the first one? If you do, give me some kind of sign.
Oh, I knew it!!!
Thanks for calling.
