Your Hero is a Jerk

When you take a look at some movie heroes they turn out to be the actual villains!

I was watching Oklahoma (in HD!) the other day and I slowly began to realize that the two romantic leads are pretty much jerks. That started me thinking about other movies or TV shows where the "heroes" are really big a-holes.

I could never really figure out how Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon is supposed to be a hero.. It doesn't start well by his being totally unaffected by his partner's death, and carries on in that vein. Great film, bad hero!!

All those film noir lead characters are jerks. I guess that's their purpose. Especially Bogart. I think that's why Casablanca is so great.. you don't expect that ending. I hope I didn't just spoil Casablanca for people. Thanks, Victoria!

Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With The Wind is a big jerk who tried to steal her best friend's husband for many years. When she failed at that, she stole her sister's boyfriend and married him for his money.

Ok, how about Edward from Twilight? He's what, over a hundred years old and Bella is 17? Ew!

Oh yeh and he's a vampire. He needs to consume blood to survive. Isn't any relationship with her just the equivalent of making out with a sandwich?

Yes! I always thought the same thing about Angel. Unless, their emotional development also freezes when they turned into vampires, I guess.. I don't want to ponder the intricacies of Twilight for too long... I'll begin to sparkle.

Lol! I guess it just shows you can get away with anything if you're hot enough. Hollywood needs to do a movie about the plight of the fugly vampire. :)
