Trey Songz - Songz 4 Peace: Minneapolis

Late last December, Trey Songz visited Minneapolis' Brooklyn Center High School spreading some positive messages in his latest Songz 4 Peace stop. Songz 4 Peace is a non-violent youth initiative formed by Chicago philanthropist/author Noonie G & Trey Songz. Started in 2008, the purpose is to educate and empower urban youth as well as influence them to make wiser decisions and utilize the options available to them.

Trey Songz was joined by an elite panel consisting of Noonie G, 12 year NBA veteran & CEO of Hudson Records, Troy Hudson, American Idol finalist Paris Bennett, founder of Mothers for Change Valentina Banks, Songz 4 Peace sponsor Alex Tievy (Of LGND Entertainment), youth mentor/motivational speaker Coach Morris, and Founder of Universal Development for Youth, Glenn Stubbs. Moderated by DJ Foot, the panel influenced the full gymnasium of high school students with personal stories and experiences driving home the importance of setting goals, avoiding violence at all costs, and respecting women. I'll let Trey's final quote on the panel give you an example of what went down.

"You are an individual and the choices you make will follow you for the rest of your life. So make good ones. And you will make mistakes, and when you do mistakes, just make sure that you learn from them. And don't follow the trends, don't follow what anyone's doin' cuz you are your own person and I can't stress that anymore...

In the time that you spend trying to be like somebody else, you're wasting the life of your own. You're wasting your individuality. God spent his time to make you special. If you're trying to be this person or that person, you're wasting yourself. So take pride in that you love yourself and know what you want for yourself because you can have it.. I'm a 100% example of that."

Trey Songz then capped the discussion with an a capella of "Gotta Make It" - the inspiring hit single from his debut album and then closed the song with another powerful message to leave to the young students. I was currently in my second home of Minneapolis at the time and was on hand to film some exclusive footage to be viewed above. Shouts to Nicole as always for putting things to together and to my partner Maks G. on the editing as the video flows from question to question and includes a little bonus clip of Trey Songz' performance at Epic Nightclub in Minneapolis later that night. Enjoy!
