Freddie Gibbs: Str8 Slammin' the Midwest

str8killa.jpg

Freddie Gibbs to Tour Midwest in Support of Str8 Killa EP

If you don't know Freddie Gibbs by know, don't hold your breath...because Gibbs AKA Gangsta Gibbs is about to blow. What keeps him from getting lost in the sea of forgettable hip hop:

1. His alias says it all; Gangsta Gibbs is the real deal. Unlike some of his hip hop peers, he raps what he's lived. And it's been a tempestuous one!
2. Gibbs is really good. (Sgt. Tibs even co-signs).

His musical content and perceptive, intelligent lyrics have been compared to Tupac; his flow to everyone from Bone to T.I. After his deal with Interscope fell apart, Gibbs went overdrive in 2009 releasing two lauded mixtapes: The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs and midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik. 2010 saw the release of Str8 Killa No Filla mixtape and his Str8 Killa EP. This bevy of quality material earned him a place on XXL's Freshman 10 and had Billboard affirming Gibbs had "revive[d] gangster rap."

"This rap shit ain't all fun and games my nigga its a job," reads a Freddie Gibbs' Facebook status. Now I was only a part of the Gibbs "entourage" for 10 hours during his 2-day trip to NYC in late October, but boy did I get to see first-hand that dude ain't lying (I missed Day 1 of his NYC trip where he killed BB Kings alongide Ghostface Killa and GWHH buddy GLC). In that time alone he performed at the Fader Fort for CMJ Music Marathon, Brooklyn Bowl for Pitchfork's #Offline Festival, and shot a video at Dame Dash's DD172 studio. OVERLOAD!!! But let's not forget the countless interviews and impromptu photo shoots between all of this!!!!

I don't know what dude was working on (Well maybe I do. If you listen to Gibbs, you know he loves Mary. For evidence, see: "Personal OG", the track for the DD172 shoot. This song's one of my faves on the EP. It's juicy, fluid and sexy all at the same time. A song the fellas will love to watch the ladies dance to. Gibbs is very convincing on this track. Maybe Prop 19 would've passed if this had been the theme song)...but Gibbs worked NYC for ALL it had to offer. He labors like someone who's terrified of failure. Or maybe of ever HAVING to return permanently to his hometown of Gary, Indiana or the lifestyle about which he raps. (But I guess he told us that already: "I hope this rap shit saves me"). At the same time Gibbs is so INCREDIBLY laid back about it all...Well, that is until he goes on stage and his stripping alter-ego comes out. Catch it yourself as he tours the Midwest this January. For the Chicagoans, catch him January 14th at Metro.

After the jump get the full tour listing and pics of my time in NYC with Gangsta Gibbs.

El DeBarge @ The Shrine [Recap]

_MG_0483.jpg

El DeBarge was the big draw this weekend in Chicago as he packed The Shrine this past Friday night. I couldn't have said it better than how The Shrine did below, which contains some fun anecdotes from the evening.

One of the original heartthrobs in R&B music is back in a major way. R&B singer/songwriter El DeBarge performed an intimate set of his greatest hits at The Shrine Chicago nightclub in Chicago's south loop entertainment district on Friday night. In front of a sold out crowd of fans, DeBarge romanticized the women with extended renditions of his classics "All This Love" and "I Like It" which were met with a sing-along from the audience. Songs from DeBarge's upcoming album Second Chance were performed. The new album hits stores on November 30. Originally scheduled to perform a 25-minutes, El told the crowd, "I have to give you a few more songs," and finished his set with a festive instrumentation and audience participation of "Rhythm of the Night."

Backstage, El was caught singing Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and was met with an applause by the surrounding guests. After hearing opening act Angela Martin singing "Nasty" by Janet Jackson, he said, "I have never heard someone cover a Janet tune live. I have to meet her. She sounded good." Neo-soul songstress Cherisse Scott also opening for the show. DeBarge's was backed by the house bands Verzatile and Zzaje.

El's brother Chico DeBarge is scheduled to perform a New Year's Eve show at The Shrine on December 31. Go to theshrinechicago.com to buy tickets and receive announcements via e-mail.

Be sure to check out the gallery below for all of the awesome photos from the evening's events, taken by Rich P. Second Chance is due out November 30th. Enjoy!

Pete Rock & CL Smooth LIVE @ The Shrine

DSC_1385.jpg
All photos by: Seth Kammueller

The other night, Pete Rock & CL Smooth made history at The Shrine in Chicago as the duo reunited for a performance for the first time in five years in the United States. Appropriately, the line outside was around the block and the crowd was shoulder to shoulder inside. The energy was kept high all night by DJ Sean Mac before Pete Rock & CL Smooth took the stage for their nearly hour-long set. Pete Rock primarily DJed front and center while CL Smooth played to the crowd on all sides as the duo performed many of their classics like "Straighten It Out", "One In A Million", and many more. Pete Rock also played a series of his classic productions in a 'who's who' session of sorts that was favorable with the crowd. And yes, Pete Rock did go from behind the turntables to the mic, joining CL Smooth on stage for a few songs including the end of their closing song, "T.R.O.Y." - the sure climax of the show and a moment I won't forget since their hit single is one of my all-time favs. After the show, we were confirmed to talk to Pete Rock & CL Smooth to talk about their big reunion on stage in the States, among other things, but everyone (including media) was hurriedly escorted out of the club. It would have made for the perfect icing on the cake to get Pete Rock & CL Smooth's thoughts on the historic night at The Shrine, but we still have some amazing stills from the evening in the gallery below, courtesy of GWHH's Seth Kammueller. Enjoy!

Jay-Z & Eminem LIVE @ Yankee Stadium

In perhaps the biggest hip hop show to date, Jay-Z & Eminem performed the first of 2 shows at Yankee Stadium last night, flanked by surprise guests Kanye West, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Dr. Dre50 Cent, G-Unit, D12, Swizz BeatzMemphis BleekBeyoncé, and Coldplay's Chris Martin, plus opening sets by B.o.B and J. Cole. Wow. The coverage has began to seep out into the internets so here goes some videos and pictures. Above, Jay-Z is joined by Kanye West and Nicki Minaj for the first ever performances of the "Power RMX" and "Monster". The audio and visuals are fairly decent and it's definitely an enjoyable watch above. Looks like 'Ye didn't change his suit from the VMAs, which, yes, will now be a comforting fact the next time I wear the same dress shirt out on Saturday night that I did Friday night. After the jump, you'll be greeted with a gallery of photos of the event (shouts 2 Rap-Up) and a few more videos featuring "Renegade", "Light Up", the hubby-wifey performance of "Forever Young", and "Airplanes", "Still D.R.E.", and more! (shouts 2 RTNY). UPDATE: Added pics via Bossip. Enjoy!

Nelly Furtado LIVE @ Ravinia Recap

nelly furtado

Nelly Furtado came through to the amazing Ravinia venue in suburban Chicago last week for what was said to be her first performance in the U.S. in quite some time. I was not sure what to expect, but was happy to attend and enjoy the show and atmosphere. After all, I have liked some of Furtado's biggest U.S. singles over the years; some have been guilty pleasure tracks at their peak ("Say It Right" and "Promiscuous" for purely inside joke reasons), and now to see her perform was an unexpected and kind of a surreal experience. She was backed by a full band and backup singers - one of which, Jamie Garcia, joined her for a vibrant duet. Her versatility was on hand as she cranked out some uptempo, jazzy, and yes, spanish hits in addition to some slower material. My favorite singular performance was when she brought out the guitar for "All Good Things Come To An End", off her most popular, international album, Loose. She also performed a couple of new tracks including the popular 2009 Spanish single, "Fuerte", and the leak from this past spring called "Free". It was a fun, and certainly different show than I'm used to; you can check out some pictures I snapped in the gallery below. Enjoy!

Kanye West: New Yorker Tweets

UPDATE: The guys are at it again today... added about 10-15 more comics in the slideshow, including the new one above!

(Originally posted yesterday...) The idea is simple and hilarious: combine New Yorker comics with Kanye West tweets. An example is above and nearly 30 concoctions can be viewed in the gallery below. Hard to pick a favorite since many of the combos are hysterical, but this one above was definitely in that top tier. Props to @joshacagan and @paulandstorm for the creations and of course, follow the man @KanyeWest for more of these entertaining tweets you see quoted in the slideshow. Enjoy!

NOTE: It looks like you may have to click an individual picture if you can't read the tweet at the bottom, to read the full thing. Sorry about that, some don't format into the slideshow for some reason.

Eminem 'Recovery' sells over 750K 1st week

em-1stwkalbumsales.jpg

UPDATE (06.30.10): Billboard says 741K. Eh, close enough.

Congrats to Mr. Mathers who came through with the highest hip hop album debut on the Billboard 200 as Recovery is coming in at over 750K sales the first week. Wow. That was higher than the early week predictions of 600K and simply amazing in this day in age where album sales are still at an all-time low. Also amazing: I tried to pick up my copy of Recovery at the end of the week at a reliable Best Buy, only to see that they had no copies left in the store (ditto for Entourage: Season 6, ugh). No worries (I know, you weren't), but I did get my How I Got Over CD and called it a night. Unfortunately, The Roots fell just shy of 50K landing at number 6, but while never high sales darlings, I'm confident that Roots album will still consistently sell as the weeks go on.

Down below, peep a gallery full of various photos continuing with more Eminem - a rough image of the set for Eminem's cameo on Entourage (which Jeremy Piven further confirmed on last night's Kimmel). Also seen is: Drake in the studio with Game, Cool & Dre, and Queen Latifah as well as on his Thank Me Later jet for the first flight of Virgin America airlines, Prince's new album cover (and tracklist), and some steamy pics on the set of Teairra Marí's new video. Enjoy!

B96 Summer Bash Concert Recap

B.O.B.
B.o.B @ B96 Summer Bash

Chicago's hit radio station B96 threw yet another awesome Summer Bash concert this past Saturday at Toyota Park. The lineup included T-Pain, Ludacris, B.o.B, Cascada, Jason Derulo, IYAZ, Taio Cruz, and New Boyz, along with B96's top DJ's. Also performing at the pre-bash were two upcoming artists that have long been spotlighted on GWHH: LA & Mr. Music and Mr. Robotic (more coverage coming soon).

Some of my favorite highlights included:  A special appearance by Perez Hilton, IYAZ performing "Pyramids" along side Charice, and Ludacris introducing up and coming Chicagoans B.X.C! Luda also performed with Taio Cruz singing their hit song "Break Your Heart" - a personal favorite song of mine. I also loved how Cascada showed off her dance moves, and B.o.B pretended to fly around stage as he sang "Airplanes". As for Jason Derulo, he took the stage with an amazing and entertaining set, ending it by ripping off his shirt while performing "In My Head", which really got the crowd going. Check out the photographs taken by me below and experience the 2010 B96 Summer Bash for yourself. In addition, you can check out B96.com for more video coverage of the Bash. Enjoy!

We were on hand to witness the jam-packed lineup that featured Ludacris, Trey Songz, B.o.B, Ke$ha, Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, Taio Cruz, Orianthi, and Kevin Rudolf. Some highlights included: B.o.B beatboxing and singing the last bridge of "Nothin' On You", Jason Derulo surprising us with an entertaining set that showcased his dancing ability, being able to experience 'the leap' that Trey Songz has made with the whole audience drawn to every a capella, and Ludacris performing "Sex Room" with Trey Songz and "Break Your Heart" w/ Taio Cruz. Get your in-depth experience of 'Fantabuloso' by thumbing through the photo gallery below (all original photos taken by yours truly). The gallery features the aforementioned artists as well as members of the 103.5 KISS FM team: Drex, Tommy Black, and more.

In a couple of related links, our friend and nightlife columnist at the Chicago Tribune, Luis Arroyave, had the opportunity to talk with B.o.B about a few things including about how he has never met "Airplanes" co-star Hayley Williams. And our old friend and contributor Dave Cantor wrote up a little review over at TimeOut! Chicago. Enjoy!

T.I. 'Welcome Back To The Trap' leads new post

03.tispan.jpg

T.I. "Welcome Back To The Trap"
FULL, CDQ, Track off upcoming mixtape, F*ck A Mixtape *Tibs Fav.™

T.I. leads a quick-hit mainstream update with the first leak off his upcoming mixtape, F*ck A Mixtape. He exhibits that uncanny flow yet again to exclaim he is back and does so without dumbing down his lyrics. His diction was especially on point in a chorus that elevates the song to another level because we can all find motivation within it. This sounds like the perfect intro track for the upcoming, ironically titled mixtape that should be arriving in the near future (shouts 2 OS).

Below lies a couple more leaks from Nas & Damian Marley's upcoming album, Distant Relatives that I really enjoyed (shouts 2 UHTN). First off is the culturally uplifting "My Generation" that features an A+ verse from Nas and some nice rhymes from Lil' Wayne as well. I liked Damian on both of these records moreso than the previous leaks, which adds to my personal replayability. Also, check out a couple videos including a quick interview w/ Malik Yusef who has been workin' a lot with 'Ye on his upcoming album. Yusef gives the album an 80% estimate of being complete. In addition, peep some more Steppin' Laser tour footage from Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B. And finally, peep a nice gallery of three single/album covers (including Drake's "Find Your Love" set to premiere later tonight) and the gorgeous Keri Hilson in Flaunt Magazine (shouts 2 NB). Enjoy!

What do producers look like?

kanye-no-id.jpg
Kanye West with mentor, fellow Grammy-award winning producer No I.D.

Ever wonder what a producer looks like? All the time, the artists are the ones on TV, at award shows, etc. and soak in the spotlight but in many cases the producer behind their biggest hit would not even be recognized on the street. Sure, some of the game's biggest producers also happen to be some of the game's biggest stars (i.e. Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Timbaland), but there are many chart-topping producers that remain behind the scenes and out of the public spotlight. In fact, that very generalization stemmed the idea of this post - an in-depth gallery showcasing the faces of today's (and yesterday's) biggest producers, some of whom I did not know what they looked like before I compiled the photos. So hit the slideshow below and put a name to a face - whether it is Kanye West's mentor No I.D. (above), to old school hip hop producers like Large Professor and DJ Quik, to new school hip hop producers like Bangladesh and Boi-1da, to R&B's finest like Darkchild and StarGate, and even the producers behind some of today's biggest pop hits like RedOne and Polow Da Don - it's all there!  Do you know what they all look like already? Well, I bet you're bound to see someone and learn something new in the process thanks to the brief descriptions under each producer (some need no introduction). Enjoy!

Three rising Chicago MCs team up for 'Fly Like This'

flylikethisart.jpg

Rockie "Fly Like This" f/ YP & Big Homie D.O.E.
Producer: LPeezy & Gift - FULL, CDQ *Tibs Fav.™

Alas, the CDQ version of the Chicago tri-collab "Fly Like This" has landed. This is one that I've been feelin' since all three came together and performed the record live a few weeks ago. To walk you through it, Rockie delivers the hook with an infectious swagger as YP, Rockie, and Big Homie D.O.E. rap one verse each in that order. YP plays to his strength and leans on similes in his verse with my favorite being the random ode to former Indiana Pacers point guard Travis Best, haha. Rockie continues his superb flow with a clear, distinct second verse and Big Homie D.O.E. rounds things out with a verse that successfully boasts his LDRS collab. It's a great job all around as the producers LPeezy & Gift created a booming backdrop that is complimentary to all the emcees and makes me wanna ride out to this one. If you like the track, support it on DJ Timbuck2's GO-ILL Radio by voting at djtimbuck2.com.

More hip hop can be had as a second Lupe Fiasco unreleased track hits the web in as many days (shouts 2 Nav). I'm diggin' The Matrix references in the second verse but the choppy production is holding me back from really gettin' into it. Lupe already tweeted about "Proceed"'s age, but it should be clear from the track anyway that it is indeed old Lupe.

A new Mickey Factz freestyle over some original production from Don Cannon (shouts 2 DJ Z) is the standout track to definitely download below. The references are just crazy from Factz who even name-drops Topanga from Boy Meets World #gottalovethe90s. Another 2009 freshman, B.o.B., is on hook-duty in "Don't Go There". He kills it but Giggs was just the opposite. For the B.o.B. fans, you'll not only be interested in the track but also DJ Z's in-depth exclusive interview that talks everything from the May 25th mixtape to the potential of Barack Obama being a fan, haha. Finally, more new music can be had from the likes of Game (shouts 2 Nav again), Freeway, Cam'Ron, Maino, and Papoose (shouts 2 splash).

Make sure to hit the gallery as well to peep some great photos behind the scenes at three video shoots: Alicia Keys "Put It In A Love Song" f/ Beyoncé (!), DJ Khaled "All I Do Is Win" f/ T-Pain, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, & Rick Ross and B.o.B. "Nothin' On You" f/ Bruno Mars. Enjoy!

Trey Songz & Stevie Wonder perform at BET Honors (RECAP)

UPDATED w/ Steve Wonder & Take 6, Ryan Leslie, & Jazmine Sullivan/Patti LaBelle performance videos (after the jump!)

The BET Honors Awards took place yesterday evening and if you're a fan of R&B, then you were in for a treat. The performances were nothing short of spectacular with Trey Songz sharing the stage with the legendary Stevie Wonder above. It was obviously a great look for Trey and the performance was one that earned a standing O. The duet was really entertaining as Stevie throwing in some harmonica as well as the duo throwin' in a lil' "Invented Sex" in the middle. Trey explains how the performance all came about in an excellent interview after the jump.

Also after the jump are the rest of the night's performances including tributes to honoree Whitney Houston by Jennifer Hudson and Kim Burrell as well as Maxwell, Mary J. Blige, and India.Arie. Other honorees include Diddy, Queen Latifah, Keith L. Black, M.D., and Dr. Ruth J. Simmons. Finally, make sure to hit the gallery for some fantastic stills from the evening also featuring Ne-Yo, Ryan Leslie, and even Chris Tucker (shouts 2 FreddyO). Enjoy!

'We Are The World' Remake Photos

Thumbnail image for now-wearetheworld.jpg

It's the 25th anniversary of the classic "We Are The World" and today's biggest and brightest musical stars gathered together last night to record the remake for Haiti relief. To paraphrase MTV's full story, Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones assembled more than 80 singers, rappers, and actors for the remake including Kanye West, Usher, Justin Bieber, and Lil' Wayne. Classic artists like Barbara Streisand, Carlos Santana, and Tony Bennett were in attendance along with actors Vince Vaughn, Jeff Bridges, and the offspring of Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones: Nicole Richie and Rashida Jones. Will.I.Am. has a hip hop break written into the remake that makes reference to the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. There are hints that Janet Jackson will be recording her part (over Michael Jackson's original) and that even more artists are scheduled to join in. For example, Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Jay-Z are rumored to be involved but were not pictured at last night's session.

The song, co-written by Lionel Richie and the late Michael Jackson, and music video are scheduled to premiere during NBC's Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver on February 12th and all of the song's proceeds will be donated to the victims in Haiti.

Of course, it's amazing to see all these stars gathered together in one place - not for an award show but to actually record music for a good cause. Look at the full list of artists, browse the slideshow below for pictures featuring many of the stars from last night's studio session (shouts 2 WireImage), and re-live the original once again after the jump. Can't wait to hear what this sounds like. Interested to see if there will actually be any rapping in addition to the covers (doubtful tho haha)... Enjoy!

Kanye West blogs about recent fashion criticism

kanye-message.JPG

Kanye West took to his blog to lash out at recent criticism (IN ALL CAPS OF COURSE) from PETA who recently included the star on their 'Worst-Dressed' Celebrity list. This blog from the PETA Files probably added fuel to the fire. 'Ye has some strong points about the hypocrisy he sees in the fashion world as his response then transitions into a more general mindset on life. This part I really appreciate as his post can be interpreted as an inspiration for creative people to think outside the box (the 'color by numbers approach to life'). He even ends the post with a rhyme that I hope he somehow integrates into song. Also noteworthy: "Let the ball players dance after they score!". Hah, I love that. For those still unaware of why Kanye's fashion is causing such a fuss, hit the slideshow below for a glimpse at some brand new pictures of Kanye West & Amber Rose at Fashion Week in Paris (also courtesy of Ye's blog). Download new version of Mr. Hudson's 'Anyone But Him' featuring Kanye West

kanye-hudson.jpg

Mr. Hudson "Anyone But Him [Single Version]" f/ Kanye West
FULL, CDQ, NEW Version *Tibs Fav.™

The original version of "Anyone But Him" appeared on Mr. Hudson's debut album, Straight No Chaser. Now it looks as if the collabo with Kanye West will officially be pushed as the next single using the new version above, which boasts more of a rock feel to the song. I was always never into this song compared to the rest of the album and I think it was the beat that detracted my interest since I always felt Hudson's lyrics were solid on this record and Kanye's verse was entertaining. Now that the beat has this unique feel to it, I have a renewed desire to listen to it and look forward to seeing whatever visual they come up with if that's indeed the case. Perajok has more info including a couple tweets from DJ Semtex.

Down below lies a few more tracks and a trio of videos as an unreleased Lupe Fiasco preview leaks out this afternoon. Here's the explanation (via 2db):

A preview of Lupe's upcoming official mixtape w/ DJ Absolut, entitled Vintage Fiaso. Being that Absolut was the first DJ to show Lu some love in NYC, the mixtape will contain 12 unreleased songs from his days at Arista Records.
I smell shenanigans! Let's see if that gets shut down. (UPDATE: Thought so.) Nevertheless, the beat goes pretty hard though and Lupe illustrates a real nice flow. Also included below is a Game feature (shouts 2 X), a new and powerful video from Rhymefest, ditto from Wyclef Jean, and B.o.B. performing at the Sprite Step Off in Charlotte... haha! Last but not least, make sure to peep an interesting slideshow of Kanye West, Amber Rose, & Pharrell at Fashion Week in Paris (shouts 2 Rap-Up). I definitely think Pharrell's new facial hair should stay, haha. Enjoy!

GWHH's Readers: Top 3 Sneakers of 2009

After nearly a week of voting, it's time for the winners to be announced...
(Here's the previous list of candidates)

1. Nike Air Yeezys
2. Nike Air Jordan XI Space Jams
3. Converse X UNDFTD Poor Man's Weapon

I don't think it was a big surprise that the Nike Air Yeezys took 1st place.  As I stated before, you either loved them or hated 'em and it appears GWHH has a lot of love.  They were definitely the biggest hype from Nike this year and this hype started way before anyone knew the name of them or whether or not they'd be released to the public.  The craze began all around the internet for these "unknown" sneakers immediately following Kanye West's performance of "Stronger" at the 2008 Grammys.  If you have your pair, hold on to 'em and if your looking to grab one, expect to be droppin' at least $500.

GWHH's Runner-up was the Nike Air Jordan XI Space Jams.  There's a history behind these shoes like no other...First worn by Michael Jordan on May 14th, 1995 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, then a year later in Jordan's debut in Hollywood with the motion picture Space Jam, and finally being released to the public in late 2000.  These shoes created almost a cult following, with some pairs selling for as much as $650 to those who couldn't when released.  The 2009 Space Jams were one of Nike's most hyped sneaker releases of the year, beginning as early as March when the first images were dropped.  Keep them soles ICY!

In 3rd place, was another successful collaboration by Converse and UNDFTD.  These were actually released on Armed Forces Day and personally were one of my favorite sneakers of 2009.  Matt Halfhill said it perfectly, "Another W for Undefeated's winning streak."

10 Predictions for 2010

2010.JPG

You know we couldn't let the year get away without a post inspired by the end of the decade. However, here you won't find another recap of the best albums or songs of the decade; those lists are already played out not only on hip hop websites but across all of entertainment. Instead, with the help of GWHH partner-in-crime Maks G., we came up with 10 predictions for 2010! It's amazing to see the difference a year can make for the artist (ask Drake) or the industry and this time next year, we expect both to be drastically different while bearing some familiar names. Hit the gallery for all 10 predictions!

Finally, Maks and I would like to thank you for your continued support throughout 2009 and into the future! Be sure to have a safe and happy new year as we look forward to 2010!

GWHH Top 10 Sneakers of 2009

top10.jpg

As we approach 2010, I thought it would be fitting to take a look back at some of 2009's hottest sneakers. As we glanced back over this year's releases, it was quite obvious sneaker heads were blessed with a excellent year. Nike as usual, had plenty of successful re-releases while also introducing us to one of their most loved and hated kicks: Air Yeezys. Other companies such as Reebok, Adidas, Supra and Clae also made some big moves in the industry while offering us some solid options.

I was able to narrow the list down to 10 sneakers, which I felt earned their spot in the Top 10 of 2009. Check out the slideshow found at the bottom of the post for up close pics of each of pair. There is no order to the slideshow since I found it rather difficult to rank these sneakers.  Instead, we decided to let the readers VOTE and select their No. 1 Sneaker of 2009.  You can place your VOTE right below, and we'll announce the results for the No. 1 Sneaker of 2009 sometime next week. Stay Tuned and CAST YOUR VOTE!

Kanye West for A Bathing Ape - Spring 2010

kanye-west-bape-bathing-ape-spring-2010-lookbook-1-499x333.jpg

We lead off this post so I can tinker around with the brand NEW slideshow feature in spotlighting the latest dip into the fashion foray from Kanye West. He works with the iconic company BAPE to be featured in their Spring 2010 lookbook. There's some pretty dope styles and I think it's safe to expect that you'll be seeing even more of the youth littered in Laker-colored vests, fully illustrated jackets, or accessories defined by the all-caps BAPE. (Photo credit: Hypebeast)

DOWNLOAD new mp3s after the jump from the likes of DMX, Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Ne-Yo, and Lady Gaga (and an UPDATED Reflection Eternal collab with Mos Def, J. Cole, and Jay Electronica). The most entertaining track comes from none of them, however, as Maino drops a Tiger Woods-inspired record. You'll see. Also, I heard it was rumor for awhile but now it's been confirmed everywhere... T.I. has been released early from prison and currently staying in a halfway house in Atlanta. Enjoy!

We are going to start implementing this great new slideshow feature on GWHH, and what better way to start than with some recent drawings by Jeff Pak. Take a look through the slideshow by using the top-right arrows or by clicking on the mini squares below. You can even drag the images onto your desktop! More great slideshows to come in the near future as we explore this new feature. Any suggestions or opinions always welcome. Enjoy.
