Hip Hop International set to host the 9th USA & World Hip Hop Dance Championships

If you're a fan of hip hop dance or like tv shows like "America's Best Dance Crew" or "So You Think You Can Dance", the 9th annual Hip Hop International USA & World Championships kick off July 25th in Las Vegas. With 35 countries in attendance and $20,000 in prizes, it's expected to be the summer's hottest dance event!

I recently talked with America's Best Dance Crew co-producer & Hip Hop international Co-founder, Howard Schwartz. For those not familiar with the HHI Championships, Howard explains them to be "The Olympics of hip hop dancing, and a place for dancers to come and connect with the rest of the world of dance" They bring hundreds of dancers together that compete in 5 different categories: Hip Hop Dance (crews of 5-8), 3-on-3 B-Boy/B-girl battles, Locking, Popping and the newly added, Freestyle.

Howard also shared with us that this years 2010 Living Legend recipient Grandmaster Caz is the the first simultaneous DJ and MC in hip-hop history. For more info on Grandmaster Caz and Rapper's Delight, click here. The Living Legend award is given to a member of the hip hop community who has influenced and directed hip hop in a positive way and has roots in both music and dance. Previous Living Legend awards have been presented to MC Hammer, DJ Kool Herc, Boogaloo Sam, Don "Campbellock" Campbell and Tommy the Clown.

Hip Hop International believes it is a platform for dancers to get noticed and network.

Many of the crews from Hip Hop International have had success on ABDC (Poreotix, Kaba Modern, SoReal Cru, Team Millenia)  Dancers from the USA will have to compete for 3 spots to represent the USA in the World Championship. Back again are the reigning USA champions and  America's Best Dance Crew season 5 Champions, Poreotix. I caught up with Dumbo, one of the crews founding members, and he shared with me why they decided to return this year are to HHI, "Hip Hop International is the best place to share your hip hop style and we are who we are because of Hip Hop International", says Dumbo. He went on to explain that their exposure at the championships definitely helped Poreotix build a fan base and gain exposure in the community, which eventually helped them with their success on ABDC. What's next for Poreotix?? Will we be seeing a Poreotix show in Vegas like the season 1 winners the Jabbawokeez? Dumbo says that first, they plan to do their best to help bring home a World medal to the USA and then go from there. If you're unfamiliar with Poretix, check 'em out on ABDC!

All in all, HHI wants you to know that "Hip Hop Dance is out there and is growing!". They have created an atmosphere where the public can get to experience and enjoy hip hop dance live that is family oriented and fun.

Be looking for Chicago's own talent making their way to Las Vegas. Three local crews will be competing in the adult division: C.O.D.A, Design, & Hip Hop Connxion Elite Check back for more on these crews!

In the Las Vegas area and want to check it out? Event info can be found on hiphopinternational.com.

TIBS EDIT: Lindsey is our new dance contributor so be on the lookout for more great coverage from her in the near future!

And even if you're familiar with some of the songs like "Stronger" and "Kick, Push", every song on there is a dance remix of the original! gowhere? uses a sharp ear to compile an excellent mix of tracks that flow together after personally transitioning them into an hour-plus long mix that you can plop right onto a CD.

Chicago is well represented with Kanye, Lupe, and The Cool Kids as is some current mainstream hits like "Rude Boy", "Bedrock", and "Spotlight", but be sure not to overlook some of the artists whose names aren't yet household names. Download the mix with the main link and if you particularly like one song of the mix, you can grab the FULL song for EVERY song in the smaller link. Enjoy!

Compiled and mixed by: gowhere? *GWHH FAV.™

If you're up on your GWHH history, you may remember the blog's original founder: gowhere?. Over the past couple years he has been traveling around the globe and in his spare time DJing and compiling mixes. gowhere?'s unique and positive taste on hip hop is illustrated in this new hip hop/dance mix he compiled, and sent to us all the way from Tokyo showcasing some of his recent favorites.

As you can see from the tracklist above, the mix contains a great balance of today's hits REMIXED with a club/dance feel perfect for the night out or cruisin' in the car. There is an incredible amount of big names from Kanye West and Alicia Keys to R. Kelly and Lady Gaga in addition to some songs you may have never heard of from the likes of Kid Sister, Amanda Blank, and Major Lazer featuring Wale, Nina Sky and Ricky Blaze.

Guaranteed you don't have some of these remixes so download it above and see which ones you may like more than the original (Mine is the "Gifted" remix.. wow). Needless to say, the mix is a perfect addition to your night's festivities. Throw it on as you hit the town tonight or as a great playlist that will satisfy everyone at your house party. Props to gowhere? who did an excellent job compiling and mixing the tracks together and Maks G. for another well-designed and composed cover. Enjoy!
